I haven't worked for a reefer outfit for 4 years. Are the new reefers totally electronic. For instance is there an app that would send an alarm to your phone if the reefer quit? Or does the reefer have WiFi and send something to the carrier? Will it allow you to monitor the temp from the cab of the truck. I prefer dry van work but I find there are too many outfits with junk trucks. Most of the reefer companies where I applied have new trucks and new trailers. Many do Calif. and Texas so lots of miles from Canada.

If they don't patent that ####... Lol don't think you could really patent it... Atleast not without them being able to get around a patent

You could copyright your code, but I'm sure there's a million ways to code something like that. If it's telling the office remotely, there's a signal, and where there's a signal, there's a way to hack into it.

All that technology exists. Just a matter of spec'ng the trailer with the technology and subscribing to the various services. Many fleets are notified in the office when fuel level in a trailer goes below a certain threshold or when the unit is turned off or temperature is changed.

They can also send out hours status, number of defrosts, voltage, charge amps, and other various operational numbers, etc at specified intervals back to the shop where potential problems can be addressed early.

Passive or active control mode systems are up for debate. Imagine a fleet like Prime Inc. Imagine someone hacked into the system, locked out Prime staff, and locked out direct unit control of status (temperature) and set every trailer in the fleet to 70 degrees F

Like most they will be reactive to a scenario like that. But what are the chances? What person is going to wake up with the idea of setting all of Primes reefers to 70?

Probably the same ones trying to figure out how to [at least temporarily] shut down banking and electricity grid systems.

I've often thought that it would be convenient if there were a removable remote control panel on the reefer that could be plugged in in the cab, locking out reefer controls externally.
