Fine for not using elds

In other words, it is a typical government regulation.

 

FMCSA has not stated any fine. It could be up to the states, or more than likely they will release the fine schedule in September after their annual conference, At lease all my google-## leads me to believe that for now anyway.

 

Good luck with that. I see your point but you will be ticketed. I guess you could hire a lawyer when it happens. Not likely to be cost effective lol. Some laws never make sense. I will never understand why this is the one that draws so much attention. We live in a world where paper checks, paper money and really anything analog no longer exists but yet we are supposed to convince everyone we are special and shouldn't be subject to electronics. Yeah right we will just keep it on paper wink wink. Instead of complaining how it's recorded you would think we could all agree that it's the HOS rules that's the problem. It's amazing to me. Drivers love to moan about the shiny objects in front of their face, meanwhile getting slammed from behind and never even noticing it.

If a log book is required 8 days or less per 30 day period, you are exempt from the ELD requirement. So, if you are primarily short haul, limit your longer runs and longer days to 8 or fewer per 30 days and don't worry about it.

 

Forget the long haul then. Do it on paper logs or not at all. Stay in the short haul. That once a year long OTR logging with the risk of fines etc for not having ELD is not something worth it's cost.

Government is very wunderbar at creating costs with rules. Costs you cannot live with. Or do without. It's like Obamacare, pay the penalty each year and be done with it much much much cheaper than paying 1500 a month or so for a family with kids. For a 10K deductable you cannot afford.

 

ELDs are going to be a logistical nightmare. Every person who moves the truck will require their own ELD code. The mechanic, truck washer, fuelers. Any person who moves the truck will have to log in/log out and violations will get more than just a hairy eyeball from the enforcement agencies. Too much micromanaging, JMHO

 

More than likely be put oos and if owner op they could take your dot authority for noncompliance
