Remember the old days?
No automatic slack adjusters, had to crawl under the tractor and trailer with the 9/16" wrench to adjust the brakes.
If in the east, you could get away with adjusting probably once a week.
Out west, you could end up doing it every day, and with a scale house at the bottom of the hill, you check the adjusters at the top of any long steep grade.
In that case, you would log a 15 minute stop, on duty/not driving, for brake adjustment.
Brake Check areas: pull off mandatory?

Just use Georgia overdrive when going down hill.

I pull over and log 5-6 minutes On Duty/Tire/Brake Check so later on the lawyers who are trying to sue me after their client rear ended me can see I am an up and up professional driver.

The brake check starts at 5:57 and we see a hazmat truck blow right on by the brake check.

It depends on the signage. Black on white signs describe what is law and would be mandatory. Black on yellow is a recommendation or warning.

As far as how much time to log; eLogs will do it for you (just make sure it is recorded as on-duty, not driving) and for paper, however much time it takes--1 minute, 1 hour, whatever.Last edited: Jun 2, 2017
