Not all. I was with Dowdy in Arkansas and Walmart was a drop hook with his company. It's 200 plus trucks set at 72ish. It's a benefit when stuck in herds of 67 mph governed trucks, pull to hammer lane and get clear. In and out in 10 minutes drop hook.
Forget the megas. Everyone goes gaga over them. I say sheesh. Look for the smaller fleets closer to headquarters and you will find a number of trucks that are faster than the megas in general. The better to make time. Dowdy Im told is no longer in business, I suspect the fuel prices ate him up years ago with 4 dollar desiel. Ive wondered about him and his entire company, the people who worked there. They gave me a future when none did back in the 90's
What food distribution companies/warehouses are the worst?

I've actually heard it the other way around. That's a good question, and something tells me there's truth behind it. And probably from both ways

All of them....
thats why I'll quit trucking before I ever bump another dock.. -
wasn't there an A&P in the Big Easy that truely sucked ?

Winn Dixies were no picnic back in the day either. -
My gross story: I had to deliver to Charles Austin Limited in Chinatown Chicago. It's a pretty terrible place to have to deliver to to begin with. It's on Canal St inside the loop, and you have to block all 4 lanes to back into the one dock they use. But before you get in the dock, you'll spend several hours waiting in their "staging area", which is an abandoned lot down the road. It looks like a scene out if RoboCop where people get ambushed.
I went inside the place, and it made many of the Chinese restaurant stereotypes come true for me. People were wandering around covered in animal parts, and the floor was like an ice skating rink everywhere you went because of the grease and fatty material caked on everywhere.
I've been to a ton of the Chicago meat distributors, and those take the cake in general. Saw some unattended pallets of fresh meat in the dry side of a warehouse before, plenty of mould, and questionable hygiene practices to boot. I'm not talking about the national cold storage chains though. -
the worst are Buzzuto's in conn.Any c&s and supervalu in denver pa.
DTP Thanks this. -
Taylor Farms day and half to two days waiting. They pick it fresh from the field, but you better not be late....

A lot of these drivers like to wine and cry ...almost all food shippers and receivers have improved in the last few years and it isn't near as bad as 20 years ago .
