Trump can't do anything, Congress voted in the legislation. Congress would need to undo it.

So let me get this right! This was brought up way back in 2011 and now that there's only a few months left people want to take action? Way to be on top of things

    Congress?

I didn't know congress was the group that mandated this, I thought the mandate and rules came from FMCSA only.

Trucking industry in the U.S. is anything but over regulated. 50% of your drivers do not know how to make money any different way besides to run illegal even when they have the option to run legal they do not know how to manage time properly and burn their hours for no reason. I do agree with the HOS needs to be looked into but that is far from this business being over regulated. LOOK AT EUROPE, and their regulations on trucks and drivers alike and their HOS policy or what it takes to be able to obtain a permit to own a commercial vehicle, Come on man i see driver and owner ops alike in my shop daily that can't speak 10 words of english but were able to sign on the dotted line and now they have their own truck lease onto a company and undercut everyone on the load prices because they can run 5000 miles a week and gross $6000 they are happy with this cuz they don't look at the time they are investing for that money. This has been a long time coming and needs to be done in order to weed out all the people that are just making miles cuz they dont know any other way to make money in the truck business, granted this will put them out of business or they have to adapt( MOST LIKELY WILL GO OUT OF BUSINESS) and it is very much needed cuz they are undercutting everyone and messing up this business for everybody. they do not know what quality loads are do not know what truck maintenance is they just know one thing i need fixed now cuz i have a load to pick up in an hour and what do u mean it's going to cost that much, can you please just rig so i can down the street and ill come and fix it later, doest matter if im telling them that their tires are going to fall off or a light bulb is burned out it's always same. Dont get me wrong i got nothing against immingrants in this business i am one myself but they do not know what business is and what it take to have a proper running truck or truck business. they just know that they can make miles and that equals to money. This needs to STOP there needs to be more regulations put on this business like ELD, Also stricter language and knowledge to obtain a cdl. How does a DOT officer believe you have you CDL when he asks to see your logs and the guy says hi over and over not understanding a word how did you get your license that would be the next question out of my mouth. This business in the US definately needs to be more regulated.

In 2012 when congress passed the highway appropriation bill, "Moving ahead in the 21st Century", elogs were mandated in that bill. Was supposed to happen within 3 yrs.

Illegally???? So you actually think that's the reason many don't care for Elogs?
Bought my 1st truck 30 years ago, no power steering, no air conditioning, and no Elogs! Guess what...?? In the last 30 years I have ZERO accidents, ZERO log book violations, and ZERO complaints of my performance to getting the job done. And I can sleep well at night!
Some of us don't need our hands held to get the job done, nor do we need an electronic leash. If anything needs repair or change it's the HOS not the log book that you claim the rest of us fill out illegally! And I really love all the "Elogs saved me xxx amount of time today" then in another post another person goes on about getting off the road early to find a parking spot before they run out of time and get in trouble. So much for all the time saved. If Elogs are anything at all, they are a JOKE, no improvement whatsoever when it comes to safety.
Oh and by the way... my 1995 Kenworth has one of the best collision avoidance systems out there too, it's called a careful
Operator. No wires and sensors needed.
Be safe out there, we all have someone waiting at home.

@nasriza ...Really! We need MORE regulation? What ##### kool aid have you been drinking?
E-logs have not a thing to do with driving 5000 miles a week and running illegal!
Maybe up there in Chicago where the 1099 Russian outfits are all running crazy and probably illegal in their POS white Volvos...can't drive, barely speak English and don't have a clue about what they are doing!
I agree they need to learn the language and rules but that is another matter.

But to state we need more regulation? How much more can they do? Put some Federal agent in the truck with us? ( more regs will go in affect in 2019 with this mandate anyway)
if you want more regulation how about killing these CDL mills who pump out thousands of drivers who could not even back into a parking spot?
It sounds like you are backed or work for a Mega who thinks they are going to take out all small business....
Small business was what America and trucking was founded on..

And the small carriers are under cutting rates?....Holy crap man! I think you got things backwards there!
I see way more drivers for the big carriers running around with crap equipment, bald tires, running on a flat tire and just keep going, filthy trucks and just clueless!

My company has 2 trucks....both new and new trailers. They get a Federal Inspection every 25k along with service...Never run recaps and the trucks are kept spotless..So don't think us small guys are driving around in junk!

Like already said,we don't need our hand held to do our job like many of these drivers do.
I have been trucking since 1981,no accidents,no log violations and no problems.
When I started we were professionals, not these flip flop wearing steering wheel holders of today...

i have no problems with professional drivers, nothing but respect for them but the reality is what you see around is more and more drivers that are completely clueless about the truck or roads or what it means to have a CDL and you probably are right my opinion is probably a bit biased cuz i do live in chicago but this is an epidemic all over US, there is no more truck drivers like they used to be when my father started driving or when you did to actually plan out a trip and break out an atlas make sure everything was good with the truck down to the wipers before he left this breed of truck driver is dying if not almost completely dead not you have a guy that jumps in the truck set gps and starts driving that GPS can take him to the moon and he would still go without questioning it at all, so maybe drivers like yourself dont need extra regulations but you know a few bad apples make it bad for everyone, and reality is that there is a lot more than a few bad apples out there, forget backing up there is people that barely know how to drive straight or drive a #### car that get a cdl and they go on the road to make thousands, im not for the mega carriers or brokers but they wouldn't offer cheap rates if someone was not taking the load so the reality is with the rates how they are now someone is still hauling that freight cuz if they werent rates would be up years ago, eld and other regulations are there to control the masses and unfortunately drivers like yourself my father are going to suffer the consequences of this business being driven by rookies and people that have no business being truck drivers or owner ops, there is a lot more of the second then there is of professional drivers so unfortunately it is just controlling the masses. There has been a fight going on about ELD's for a few years now and then again nothing happened i think this is going to work itself out, Fed Ex had them installed a while back and every owner op that comes to my shop did nothing but ##### and moan how they will have no freedom and how this sucks and how they are going to get out of Fed Ex and go somewhere else, WHAT REALLY HAPPENED every single one of them still has their trucks with ELD and learned how to work with them to the point now that if they dont have the ELD seems like they can't drive, i dont think this will happen with everyone but in the end everyone is going to learn to work with them. Most rules go in place to appeal to the majority and can you sit there and tell me that the majority of the truck drivers now days are professional like yourself, i really dont think so not from the Mega carriers or small fleets just a sad reality.
