That tandem Dolley is mostly for turnpike doubles 2 48" so you can run 34k not 20k if it was a single axle dolley. Some states if you run that dolley on two pups can get you for a LCV permit if your length is longer.

We have em in Denver they suck to use. Rather have a single axle dolley. Pull the tandem dolley once with a rocky set. Just don't like the eye balls of the port looking at me.
-
Huh. I never knew they had a say so In the fact that they'll only let certain people go to small yards like that. Makes sense thoughMike2633 Thanks this.

Pushing a dolly while dragging a trailer with a yard goat. I actually rock at multitasking.

Dude, SLOW DOWN
you are paid hourly, they treat you like poo that got scraped off your boot
Mike2633 Thanks this. -
They aren't standard turnpike dollies, though. Look closely at that picture he posted of it by itself. Instead of duals, those are single standard-size tires on the wheel ends. So even though they have 2 axles, they still just have 4 tires instead of 8 like a turnpike dolly. Weird stuff.

Yeppers this is true which is why there such odd balls.ZachG91 and Bob Dobalina Thank this.

I think it's a turnpike dolly, with just the outer wheels mounted. I don't believe it's so specialized as to only accept one wheel per side. The question for me is why...it surely isn't for weight, since it's still only got 4 tires on it. They're not terribly popular with drivers, since you pretty much can't muscle them around and have to move them with the tractor. There's no logical reason you'd haul pups with this over a single axle dolly.
The only thing I can come up with is, "Hey, we've got these laying around. Let's single the axles out to remove a little weight and run 'em".Mike2633, LoneCowboy and ZachG91 Thank this. -
GFS ran that style of converter up until 12 years ago and there were some even as recent as 5 years ago still around it was not some fluke thing there isn't a person at the company who I've asked who knows what the purpose of those things was. GFS had some unique equipment always did, tandem axle pups that were phased out sometime in 1994, that goofy single wheel 2 axle dolly, it's weird because GFS never ran turnpike doubles, those Dolly's were bought that way, why I have no idea. The transit guys hated them because you can't move them by hand. Most of them have been phased out now our division doesn't have them. We have the standard dolly.
GFS for years on end from also bought drop axle tractors, they finally around 2005 just went straight to twin screws or in Florida single axles. But for a long time it was tandem axle pups with drop axle tractors and singe wheel 2 axle Dolly's, if that isn't a unique combination I do not know what is.G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
