Running with JCT, Part Deux

The carrier can't really keep up. I close the center curtain. I also used an old dryer vent hose to relocate the vent from the floor to bed level.it keeps me cool as long as it is not over 90.

 

Mine works ok but the hotter it gets outside the smaller I make the sleeper. In Phoenix I'll hang a blanket off the top bunk to the floor and then all the apu ac is trapped in just my bed area.

 

Hey guys sorry that I've gone dark for a few months. I turned in my truck back in early April and took a local gig for Rich Logistics.

I am home every night, and I make just a tad bit more than the 3200-3600 mile checks I used to get consistently with JCT. The wife had enough, and was ready for me to finally come home and stay.

I do miss OTR from time to time, but I got to be here for my family. I hope you guys are doing well and are succeeding in your leases.

 

I just want to make a general statement about Mr. Tiger leaving JCT. I know it's a little late, but better late than never.

First off, he's the guy I started reading on this thread that got me interested in coming over to JCT, thus I was a little shocked hearing that he was leaving. He defended this company through thick and thin. I also know he mentored a lot of JCT drivers and even offered to mentor me in a PM and I regret not taking him up on the offer. I have always appreciated his advice here on these forum and I thank him for that.

Now, I have been wondering about why he decided to leave and I remember him posting something about the fuel surcharge really affecting his income. I remember him bragging about the dollars he made back when the surcharge was really high. When I started here, fuel was up over 3 dollars but it's gone down and stayed that way for a long time. I'm wondering, if he reads this, if that did contribute to him leaving for greener pastures.

Also, I hope you know, Mr Tiger...I forgot you real name..that the post I left about you the other night was a joke. You've always been succinct and clear when it comes to advice. I thank you for that.

Fuel surcharge was a part of it. Putney factors are involved. Like i posted before, i have nothing negative or bad to say about JCT. There are a solid company that offer a great opportunity to drivers wanting to start their own business.
For me personally, after 17 years in the reefer business, i simply got tired of it. An opportunity to be home more often and significantly increase my take home pay were the largest contributing factors.

With any mileage based system, you'll always chase the miles and fight to keep as much of that base rate as possible. It's doable, but it does take constant vigilance to stay profitable.
I was presented with an opportunity to be home more often to stay close to the wife who is currently going thru some major #### with health issues, and as mentioned before, increase net income drastically. I had to jump on that.

JCT has been more than accommodating to me over 8 years and has never treated me badly. Were there specific issues? Of course there were. Every organization has SOMETHING that irritates an individual, otherwise everyone would be associated with that one organization that is perfect.....

Back to reality. JCT has a fantastic staff and support personnel to help each and every single driver, should they choose to seek it. I truly wish everyone success there and never be too proud to seek help or advice from the office, should you need it. Pride and an easily bruised ego can be detrimental to any business.

 

PayPal isn't immune to getting hacked. A couple of years ago, my BiL was among many who's account was compromised.

 

What system do you have?

I'm looking at an Alienware for when I get back on the road. I like how customizable they are, including the presumption that they're the only laptop out there that has the old school raised keys. Not to mention that they're built like an A-1 Abrams.

OTR is where I find my drops of Jupiter! I'll be home for good when I sync with the old man at the top of the mountain, and download all of the answers.

 

It's been a struggle at times, for sure, but finally up one rung on the ladder is a big relief.
