About once a week a could take Canada home which is 100 miles shorter. Would it be worth crossing thru Canada? Costs?
Thanks

Going through Canada to cut 100 miles off your route? Don't even think about it.

Not sure they even allow that anymore. You would need to set speed limiter for Ontario Canada and I think you have place the load in bond just for passing thru Canada with a loaded trailer. The paperwork for that would probably take two hour just getting thru customs. It been years since I been to Canada so maybe it more simple today. I know stuff is supposed to be pre cleared customs before you get there now
dunchues Thanks this. -
You don't want to run
Ontario if you can help it. There is an absolute gauntlet of scales and they love to play. There is also a 65 mph speed limiter law. This is all before you even get into the fact of 2 border crossings that you usually need to pack a lunch for. It's definitely not worth it to cut 100 miles. -
I am pretty sure that is not allowed. I dont think you can enter into Canada with a loaded trailer to go back into the US. If it is allowed, it would have to be bonded. Lots of paperwork.
Besides, the windsor crossing will eat up the time you would have saved.dunchues Thanks this. -
Thanks. Wont bother pursuing it.
I believe it's allowed though bc brokers like to post loads with Canada miles sometimes on that route.
Also there's $35 in tolls but still doesn't sound worth it. I'll stick to U.S...scales are a breeze on that lane -
Because a broker said it!!!
What the heck. That's the same as saying, " It has to be true it's on the internet"
Broker posts it with shorter miles to cast his bait, waiting to set the hook on an uneducated driver. Haha
Good luck -
If "taking Canada home" means you're empty then clearing the two customs points might not be too bad. If you're unladen, I can't see you needing a bond. You would need a Canadian ACI manifest going into Canada at Sarnia empty and an American ACE manifest when you cross back in empty at Buffalo. Then again they could be a two hour wait. Plus the time to do the manifests. Plus you have the scales (three I think).. I wouldn't do it to save 2 hrs of driving. To avoid a snow storm.....maybe.Last edited: Aug 8, 2017

every time i have crossed the border is has always been to load or unload in Canada. its normally pretty painless although i am not familiar with the particular border crossings that you would be using. but i would think you would need paps and pars stickers for your border crossings. i would contact a customs broker and ask them for advice

Sarnia Putnam and Grimsby. The first 2 are fairly easy to dodge. The third is hardly open but when they are they come to party.rank Thanks this.
