I had my power steering pump bite the dust a few weeks ago. Amarillo Peterbilt took 4 days to change it and the gearbox. IRT pays $75 detention pay after 48 hours plus your motels while in the shop. I was offered a spare truck but I chose to stay with mine, so that's an option too in the event of a breakdown near a terminal.
After the time at Peterbilt they put me on a run going from Hartley Texas to Hutchinson Kansas in order to help me recover from the 4 days lost work. Talk about a good run! 320 miles loaded at 46 cents and 320 miles empty at 41 cents. I'm doing 6 per week at $280 per day and a drop/hook on both ends. I will say it's a tight schedule run, not much time to stop and mess around, but good money. I plan on getting kicked back out in the system towards the end of the month though. I miss my long hauls and even though $280 a day is great money, I always did well OTR too. I'm not looking for a dedicated route right now. I like to go to McAllen, California, Florida, etc. It makes the job more fun in my opinion. As for right now though, this run is about $1,300 take home after tax and ins every Monday and I'm able to bobtail home to Okc on the weekend for my 34. My birthday is the 24th so I'm trying to hang close until then.

So you gotta give them 2 days for free... Don't like that one too much... But glad you're moving :)

I was turned down. Need more OTR experience before they will accept me. Thanks for your response.

I'm in McAllen to pick up a load tomorrow. I found out yesterday that apparently Tony is no longer with IRT. I guess all you current and ex IRT drivers on here know that that's kind of a bummer. I don't think I've ever ran into a driver throughout the country who didn't like Tony. He always gave good miles and a lot of times before giving you a preplan he would ask "where you wanna go?". Everyone always liked being in his region and running under his dispatch umbrella. He will definitely be missed amongst the drivers.

    That's a bummer.

I can relate. I just found out that I might have to change companies. We're moving to Arkansas and it never crossed my mind that my company doesn't hire out of there. The only place I knew they didn't hire out of was south of I-4. It's not that big of a deal, plenty of companies, but I really like where I am.

Changing jobs sucks. I live in OKC and I've never delivered a load in OK for IRT. When I go home they let me dead head. If I'm coming in from a 3-5 week tour of duty of running the system (OTR) they'll usually get me a Kansas delivery then dead head to Okc. If I'm coming in from just running out of Clovis I usually drive my pickup home. I think a guy would be home multiple times a week if he lived in San Antonio or around Michigan/Chicago area for IRT. It seems like those are high travel lanes for us.
Look into IRT if you're interested in Arkansas. We've got loads that deliver to Sikeston, Missouri and Little Rock.

IRT is high on my list if I ever change, but I got good news yesterday. Boss man says I can stay. :)

Didn't think he would ever leave. What about his wife Amy in recruiting?
