The 1/2 break has to be taking within the first 8 hrs of being on duty the break cannot be taken before 3 hrs of duty has been completed
Add line 1&2 together to get your hrs for that 1st. day of your 70
Say that you worked 11.5 hrs that day
You take your 70 and minus 11.5 that will give you 58.5 hrs left for an 8 day 70 hr rule
When you get real close to your 70 and you have only used 6 days then you need to let dispatch know you need a reset of 34 hrs to restart your 70 -
Umm the driver may take a 30 as soon as their 15 minute pretrip is done lol

The regulation states one cannot drive after being on duty for 8 hours. There is no minimum time, it's just usually a good plan to wait, to maximize hours.
Also, one can work 10 hours on duty before taking a 30 minute break, they just cannot drive until they have.
As an example, on a run I did, I would pre and hook up trailer foe 20-30 minutes, drive for 2h18m to pickup. Do paperwork, dock and go off duty for my 30. After loaded (about 45-60 minutes) I would go back on with a full 8 hours left. In that case I didn't need it. Heck I could usually do the run in under 8 anyway.. But just in case of traffic, I has the time to finish the day without having to take a break at the receiver.gentleroger Thanks this. -
The state of Iowa will cut ur back side if you are on duty 10 hrs before you take that 1/2 hr break.
Better watch out driver because if D.O.T. comes in to do a inspection check on the company and pulls your log(s) for any days you do happen to log that way you and company will pay a fine
I know because I have been on paper logs with my last company and 1 month on elogs
Elogs WILL NOT let you go 10 hrs on duty before you do the 1/2 hr break

I just ended my 3.3 yr stint with that company to come back local to be closer for my daughter who started college in August

As for Iowa, simply take the green book to the courthouse, get the ticket dismissed as it's not against the law, and move on with life.
Here is the actual wording....
(ii) Rest breaks. Except for drivers who qualify for either of the short-haul exceptions in §395.1(e)(1) or (2), driving is not permitted if more than 8 hours have passed since the end of the driver's last off-duty or sleeper-berth period of at least 30 minutes.
Note that nothing in there limits on-duty time.gentleroger Thanks this. -
The new People Net elogs is what Shelman&Sons operate in their trucks
Plus if you do not have the operational hand book for D.O.T. to go through the elogs if the officer is in a bad mood company will get fined
I think you need to go to the d o t and fmcsa web site to research all of what I'm putting in this post.
