I could be wrong so don't quote me on this but I'm pretty sure the 11 hour drive time is set in stone but you can add two hours too your on duty not driving line.... That's how we did it at the beer company but everything wasn't on the up and up there either so lol

We have computers I don't always think there very transparent or easy to understand. I'll be honest I don't know the ins and outs of our electronic logging system I don't quite know how it all works and I can't tell you exactly how it comes up with it's calculations.

I got one for ya - this morning, around 6 am, as I was coming across 70, a semi was going down the road with only the amber running lights on (an older Volvo). No headlights, no marker lights, no trailer lights whatsoever. Can't do that for long in the Buckeye!

Wha? Since when is a mid 2000s anything old? It must be a matter of perspective. My 68 GMC is old to me but not my old man who bought it new, and no vehicles were old to my grandad who grew up busting sod with a team of mules.

But you're right about one thing. Volvos suck. :D

It's kinda complicated, but there are two different rules. So follow the bouncing ball on this one.

Once a week you are allowed a two hour extension on your 14 if you start and end each shift at the same terminal. This is mostly for P&D, food service, beer, and the other local yokles.

Second rule is you are permitted to drive an additional two hours during inclement weather past your 11. Lots of asterisks to this rule. You can't knowingly head into a snow storm and expect an extra two hours to complete your turn. It's extremely subjective when DoT runs your logs. They may say that you made an error by heading into inclement weather that was forcasted. So be careful on that.

I snipped these from Title 49 part 395:

Pertaining to the 16 hour exemption:

    (o) Property-carrying driver. A property-carrying driver is exempt from the requirements of §395.3(a)(2) if:

    (o)(1) The driver has returned to the driver's normal work reporting location and the carrier released the driver from duty at that location for the previous five duty tours the driver has worked;

(o)(2) The driver has returned to the normal work reporting location and the carrier releases the driver from duty within 16 hours after coming on duty following 10 consecutive hours off duty; and

(o)(3) The driver has not taken this exemption within the previous 6 consecutive days, except when the driver has begun a new 7- or 8-consecutive day period with the beginning of any off-duty period of 34 or more consecutive hours as allowed by §395.3(c).

    Pertaining to adverse driving.

    (b) Driving conditions—(1) Adverse driving conditions. Except as provided in paragraph (h)(2) of this section, a driver who encounters adverse driving conditions, as defined in §395.2, and cannot, because of those conditions, safely complete the run within the maximum driving time permitted by §§395.3(a) or 395.5(a) may drive and be permitted or required to drive a commercial motor vehicle for not more than 2 additional hours beyond the maximum time allowed under §§395.3(a) or 395.5(a) to complete that run or to reach a place offering safety for the occupants of the commercial motor vehicle and security for the commercial motor vehicle and its cargo

    Personal note:

I heard you can not extend your drive time and then use your two hour extension at the same time. So... You can't drive 13 hours and then work another 3.

You can drive 13 hours but then you are done at 14. OR you can drive 11 and work up to 16.

    If that makes any sense.

I hate vacations. They cost too much.

Also, I hate worrying about what moron might be destroying my equipment while I'm off. Some idiot managed to nearly shove my radio through the dash the day I had jury duty. Hasn't worked right since.
