According to the title of the thread, they Flash them over using highbeams. Working out here every night the practice still goes on. It is my mission to educate people to NOT use highbeams to let the other driver know it is OK to come back over.
She flashed me so I flashed her back.

Rather than get into a flame-war, here, can we just acknowledge that we all might have to signal courtesy in slightly different ways, and that most of us - regardless of the specific method that we use - at least have good intentions at heart, when we do so? Yes, not everyone likes what everyone else does, but if we at least understand that they are doing it with good intentions, then the irritation in the details can perhaps be somewhat mitigated. I don't do the same things in every truck that I drive, because some trucks don't offer the methods that I prefer. But I am trying...
I also have different sunglasses for day and night, to help cut down the glare from things like high beams and LED headlamps. If I can't count on everyone else on the road to behave the way that I would like, I can either adapt, or suffer and resent them for it. Adapting is much easier on my peace of mind, stress levels, and blood pressure.J Man Thanks this. -

What does "tap headlights" mean?

Really? Would it have been so hard to just say "thank-you for the thought; this might be a better approach?" Really? -

Wow finally got my answer thanks @Fatmando

If the we respond to people who are making an effort to be courteous, with criticism, then we should reasonably expect them to stop making the effort. This is what has happened with liability; if the law might hold you responsible for someone else's stupidity, because you tried to be courteous, it doesn't stop them from doing something stupid; it stops you from wanting to be courteous.
Next time someone tries to do something nice for you, say thank-you, even if they are bad at it. Then help them to improve. Don't just berate them for being bad at trying to be nice. If that seems difficult to you, then just imagine how much worse it could be, if they stopped trying... :-/TommyTrucker88 and Dan.S Thank this. -
