I remember having to stop at a pay phone to do check calls, get load info, & call home. I even had my own 800 number so it was cheaper to call home. Lol.BigBob410, Dave_in_AZ, csmith1281 and 2 others Thank this.

That's all ok if everyone is playing by the same set of rules. It's all about competing on a level playing field.
-
They also used speed to stay awake.Hegemeister, csmith1281 and scottied67 Thank this.
-
What do you mean used to? Actually I never used speed itself but we were all on the cb back then so that helped.BigBob410, Dave_in_AZ, csmith1281 and 1 other person Thank this.
-
I was going to put cb also. But it was the speed that got trucks coast to coast. If Scottied wants to compare then to now, he has to admit they had advantages back then as well.csmith1281 Thanks this.

That & keeping the left door closed. I used to run 3 Cali to Boston turns a month at 75 mph. I could still run that fast today if I wanted.csmith1281 and Knucklehead Thank this.
-
Yes and fuel was way cheaper back then too. Now it costs way to much to runs those speeds and make a decent buck. Everyone wants the drivers dime.csmith1281 Thanks this.
-
I do very good running 67-68 mph. That would be hard to do on a mileage pay plan but I'm make money running that fast.Dave_in_AZ, csmith1281 and Cybercat Thank this.
