All the time, used drive for greyhound. At least 30 of their drivrs claimed to be seals or green berets.

Ex cop in roanoke, va claimed to be ex green beret, at least he said he was ex cop

I asked what special forces group he was in. He didnt know what an sf group was. Another guy claimed he was green beret when only an e-4 (gotta be e-5) he said he never felt so proud as when president reagn awarded him silver star for his heroism during desert storm.

I had to point out that reagan would have had to come out of retirement to give it to him, bush (41) was president not reagan.

Yesterday on natgeo, a big foot hunter claimed to be viet vet, problem is, he was my age and i was too young to go.

There are groups and websites that search for these phoneys.

Don’t salute me, i was air force during peace time, never left the country. For me it was a nice job with free food and housing. Tons of beautiful women in air force.

Back then you could get through basic w/o getting your boots dirty. They’ve toughened the air force up a bit since my days.

I remember some smaller guys couldnt even chamber an m-60, dont know how the women did it.

Lots of ribbons usually us a dead giveaway. I myself have not put a uniform on since I separated from the Army, I don't feel comfortable wearing the uniform while not active duty. I also feel extremely uncomfortable wearing any part of the uniform without the others. I do wear my old boony cap fishing.
Daughter and friends had this young man hanging out with them claiming Ranger status along with combat experience. My daughter was suspicious of his claims so invited hum over, now this kid had no clue what my past is and starts talking about his "service" as a Ranger. I asked simply had he met msg.Robin Sage. This kid tells me yeah I'm like you are a effing liar and get out of my house. You see Robin Sage isn't a person rather the name for the final Q course.

I read air force times and it includes happenings in other branches as well.

There seems to be great controversy in the army itself, as to who should be called a ranger.

Anyone who completes the ranger course can wear the ranger tab on uniform.

Guys in Air Force (e-4) and above are also eligible to Take the ranger and airborne courses, but A.F. Regs don’t let airmen wear the ranger tab unless they’re assigned to an army unit.

Apparently real rangers assigned to the the “75th” resent anyone wearing the ranger tab just because they passed the 60 day ranger course and believe only those assigned to a ranger unit who actually serve as rangers, are rangers.

In 1978 or 79, there was a guy who got onto lackland air force base with a captains uniform on in middle of the night and demanded entry to the womens dorms.

His ribbons were excessive and out of sequence, the airman said he had to call base hq and have a courier bring the key to the bmt. He actually called the s.p.’s right in front of the phoney captain.

The s.p.’s knew what ws happening and busted the guy and turned him over to the FBI. The airman who called the s.p.’s got a visit and handshake from the base commander, a major general.

You are correct there is a little rivalry with the regimentals and just tabbed. Once Ranger qualified always a Ranger , very much like the marines. On another note every tabbed Ranger has spent time in the regiment . New soldiers attend the Q course after advanced individual training at that point they are attached to the regiment upon completion of the course they will be assigned duty stations depending on occupational study. Others enter from their permanent duty stations that have already been active duty for a period of time , those soldiers will be temporarily assigned to the regiment. The regimental tab can only be worn if currently assigned permanent duty status with the regiment or served a combat tour with the regiment.

I once saw a guy wearing Marine dress blues and corporal stripes. Only problem was his trousers didn't have the bloodstripe and his belt buckle was a SNCO's.

I didn't say anything though. I figure I'm not going to stop him and he can't get any more pathetic.

You can also catch them wearing the ribbon and the medal. You'd really have to know your ribbons but it isn't unusual to see them wearing WWII/Korea/Vietnam era ribbons, stuff that hasn't been issued in 30+years.

Anyone ever see an Airman with A Ranger tab?

I’ll bet they get accused of being imposters all day long, walking through an airport with Air Force stripes and an army Ranger tab.

Less than 40 USAF Rangers exist.

When I was in the A.F. Over 30 yrs ago, there were only 2 Air Force Rangers. I knew one of them, but he had actually been an Army Ranger in vietnam and transferred into the USAF, making him an Air Force Ranger.

Within the last month the USAF started wearing brown berets for their Air Commandos who serve as foreign advisors.

The USAF also has a sage (light green) beret for their SERE specialists.
