I have a little piece of advice to anyone that delivers to Conagra in Trenton, MO...DO NOT BREAK THE SEAL UNTIL TOLD TO DO SO. I made it to my delivery about 15 min early. I would like to apologize to that 'W' driver stuck in the little truck-stop in Chillicothe, MO. If you'd started fighting with your frozen brakes a little earlier, I would've loaned you my hammer to free yourself. I guess his trainer never taught him not to set his trailer brakes when it's wet, and going to be bitterly cold. But I was pushed for time because I got to typing here and lost track of time..... anyway, about my delivery. There were 2 Cretes backed up waiting for the customer to show up when I got there. And the customer was running way behind. An hour after our appointment time he pulled up next to the three of us and said it would be 9 or so before we started, and to NOT break the seal and back in, he had tons of paperwork to do before each one is opened. The back side of this warehouse doesn't have a walk in door, he has a company p/u truck that he drives from the office, picks you up, takes you into the office and fills out the paperwork and takes you back to your truck....(another 1st...someone that takes care of the driver...) Well, one of us (not me) didn't hear him, broke his seal and backed in. Needless to say, BIG MISTAKE. The customer was a 3rd party warehouse and they had strict instructions not to accept loads before verifying seals. That driver was going to be the last one to leave, because they had to call the main boss, which had to call the other customer...and all had to wait for USDA to come and inspect every box that was unloaded. And that happened after everyone else was done. This was imported corned beef (I guess they don't have cows or corn to corn the beef this close to IA, it's cheaper to import from Brazil)

Anyway, after I was empty, I got the shock of the year...3 load offers. From Des Moines area to Detroit, Springfield OH, or S. of Ft Wayne. After I came too (the shock of 3 offers this late in the day made me pass out:biggrin_25521:) I decided Ft. Wayne area would have a better chance of finding a load home... I'm suppose to be sipping Mi tie's on the beach this weekend. Wrong O'marry-lou....I am empty in Ft. Wayne... the only thing offered after sitting all day... Plainfield to just outside Jackson, MS... P/U Friday evening, deliver Tuesday... I guess I asked too many questions about FL freight and T'calling, so they took that offer away and told me to check back in the morning... Fine with me, there is another ice storm headed through here. In fact as I type, the 'ice storm warning' just took effect. Maybe even some thunder too.... Coooool. It's been a while since I saw Thunder-snow.

I think I'm becoming an optimist.... I can't seem to get a bad attitude and work up a good rant no matter what happens.......AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH:biggrin_2555:

Has anyone run the Coca Cola in the Dallas area before? Just curious if Crete has been running these shag loads for awhile or if it something new out if desperation. Yesterday 6 of us Cretians pulled a load out of Dallas Coke delivering to Ft Worth Coke for a whopping 31 miles plus shag pay, don't get me wrong I would rather make this $50 than just sitting around but it took nearly 2 hrs to drive that 31 miles due to evening rush hour ( don't know why it's called RUSH hour) and at Coke they do not get in a hurry to load or unload you. This little shag load ate up 7 hours of the day and then my next load picked up this morning back at Coke in Dallas which meant having to deal with morning rush hour back to big D. It was a little better load going to Abilene Tx for 200 miles, after unloading I sent in the empty call and headed over to the nearby Wal Mart that has a truck parking area, the message dispatch sent was "no freight check back in am", my first thought was "what? no more crappy coke loads", well at least there are some decent places to eat around here and if I don't get a load tomorrow I will walk across the street and check in at the local roach motel where I'll be able to use the restroom without having to listen to another man moan, groan and ultimately rip a geasy fart :fart:. ya'll have a good weekend!

I'm glad you were able to save the trailer and safely make off the road. Be safe out there!

Greetings gang... Made it home safe. They found me a load out of Plymouth, IN to Macclenny, FL. Then home. I did have a problem with unhooking the other day. Was in Ottawa waiting on a decision to repower or not a GM load that I couldn't make on time. Tried to unhook, after pulling release, I couldn't unhook. After 20 min of fighting i finally got it... Went to w'mart got some cheap grease, and a new can of white lithium grease for the linkage. Has worked fine since. I was under that trailer for the better part of the week, and had been in and out of some really nasty ice and snow and plenty of salt. Now I'm home, but I had to keep airing up my right front steer tire. For some reason the sidewall is leaking, no damage, just bubbles when you spray it with the water hose. Oh well, I'm home...Will try to keep up here at the forum, but the honey do list is extra long. So much for vacation.

Happy holidays, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah...etc...etc.

And to the MODs of this forum... A big thankyou for this place... It's been a valuable place to vent especially the way this year has been.

I just delivered in the Baltimore area and had a choice of two loads within minutes, but I lost 2 days in MS before I got the load going to Baltimore. It was nice getting two loads to choose from, but they both sent me up to the WI and MN area and deliver on the 23rd. Guess I won't be in PHX by Christmas, unless I can put in 2000mi in 2 days. A bit disappointing to say the least, but I suspected this would happen all along. You would think that after being out for 8weeks they might put a little more effort into getting me home. Oh Well!

That nasty weather didn't stop in MO. I had to pickup a load out of AR after deadheading out of MS. I hit a nightmare just northwest of Memphis and they don't have the equipment to handle snow. No plows, salt or sand. They had 1 to 4in of snow and that was followed by a nice layer of frozen rain. According to the CB a tanker hit the ditch just a few miles behind me. I certainly wasn't expecting these conditions in these part. It's nothing compared to what I'm dealing with up here in Grand Rapids, MI. I pulled into the truckstop with 18in on the ground and it looks like another 12+ since then. My 7am delivery should be a hoot. I don't even know if the receiver will be open, most of the town has shut down.

This isn't what I would call a timely response, but yes they have a small office in the yard with someone that can answer your questions.

All out of hours eh, must be rough for you. We probably crossed paths in the breakroom and didn't even know it. I'll keep an eye out for your extra crome and say hi next time.

I had one of those coke loads last year, but that was when times were good and I got a load out right away so it wasn't a big deal.

Very interesting, I was just discussing this very thing with my new trainee yesterday (yup, they put a trainee on my truck one week B4 XMas). I've never had it happen, but I saw a swift driver drop a trailer years ago as he was pulling into the yard, and that was after pulling it behind him all day. I also read a thread somewhere on this board yesterday about this happening to a driver with another company and they put all the blame on him and fired him. He had pulled the trailer for over 30 miles when he lost his set of doubles on the turnpike. Another poster mentioned something about a recall on some 5th wheels in the recent past.

I can't believe how lucky you where. Just imagine what you would be dealing with if you lost the trailer at speed and watched it slam into oncoming traffic. I'm sure that's not much of a consolation at the moment, but it could have been sooo much worse.

Well, I'm having a ball. Nothing but bad news and crappy miles of late.

I ended up sitting for the better part of two days last week in MS before I was able to get a load to Baltimore. I knew at the time that the load would all but make it impossible for me to get home for Christmas. But I was sitting there with that #### Shaffer trailer and after two days it was the only place I could drop it. So it was either sit and wait for who knows how long or take it. I did have the option of taking a much shorter GA load (which in hind sight may have made it much easier to get me home), but freight out of there has not been good lately and I didn't want to get stuck there for another day or two.

Shortly after getting dispatched on that load my name popped up on the screen in the training department and they routed me through Spartanburg to pickup a trainee. I had really wanted to wait until after Christmas before taking on another student, but I guess it doesn't make that much of a difference, although I wont be able to take a week at the house as I had planned.

I had also assumed that I would be sitting in Baltimore for a day or so before getting another load out, but I was actually offered two load as soon as I was empty. Two loads, good, 1300+ miles each, good, both delivering Tuesday the 23rd. Very bad. No way to make it to PHX for Christmas from there and nothing else going where I needed to go.

So here I sit in MI under 2-3 feet of snow after a less than stellar 2200 mi week hoping I will be able to make my 2nd drop of 3 Monday morning. The whole town is shut down due to the snow. Then all I have to do is drive 450 miles across MI and WI through what is left of this blizzard and the beginning of the next one that is on the way.

    Nothing but joy.

Good news. Next week can't possibly be any worse. Right?
