Today me and a neighbor were talking about Admiral Merchants today. He asked me if i knew weather or not Admiral Merchants require a headache rack to lease on.
Most company's seem to require one to lease on even though a headache rack isn't required by law anymore. I was just curious if anyone of you guys here work there or know someone that does.
Does Admiral Merchants require a headache rack?

I think you must have one, I had a friend who had to borrow my flat head/board to hang his chains on to lease on over at Admiral Mer. he had steel tarps, one of the 1st hi. $$$ loads went over to UT. and he bought tire chains from them at or. to del. and got a load of big bags of soil to steel mill at B/ham as a return trip, he stayed leased on till he went out under his own num.
snowman_w900 Thanks this. -
Seems like all the big carriers want you to have them. My neighbor pulls for universal right now, but is looking for a change.
Did your friend like admiral merchants? Just curious if he left because he wanted to do his own deal or if he was unhappy there. -
LS doesn’t require one.
Currently I don’t have one.
I don’t haul coils either, and strap and chain everything to destruction point.cke and snowman_w900 Thank this. -
I run with Admiral, pretty sure they could care less if you have a headache rack. They trust their drivers to carry whatever securement they'll need and if you can't haul a load because of a lack of chains/straps/dunnage whathaveyou, then just don't book it.
cke and snowman_w900 Thank this. -
I know a few years back they had no requirements about equipment. You can lease a 1988 1/2 ton Ford van and they could care less

Yeah they're pretty lenient, they definitely have a wide spectrum of trucks leased on. Come to think of it, I know a guy that runs a huge 190" sleeper truck mated to a 48' flatbed, and I'm pretty sure he doesn't have a headache rack. I remember seeing a door on the rear of the sleeper.
stwik and snowman_w900 Thank this. -
Lol im picturing that. Thats funny

They are about as laid back as can be. Nice people in the office. Typical Minnesotans I guess. They don’t have any “terminal” or “yard”. It’s just an little office building in Minneapolis where they answer the phones and shuffle papers. I only saw it by choice. Wasn’t going to lease on without checking them out first. They directed me to a Home Depot and sent a taxi to pick me up & take me downtown so we could talk face to face. Nice folks
cke, snowman_w900, Oxbow and 3 others Thank this. -
