My bunk heater on a volvo smoked. Not sure if it was all the time or just on startup.
Can you post a picture of the "engulfing". I would like to see the extent.

Espar or Webasto? I deal with the former fairly often... the latter, we send off, as they're so few and far between that we never keep parts for them.
There are a few reasons they could smoke like that... I'd first ensure that airflow through the heater isn't in any way impeded. Other than that, your most likely culprit will be your glow pin screen.. when this gets plugged, it restricts air flow, and causes a very rich fuel/air mixture. IMO, if you're going to replace that, you might as well take the whole thing apart, replace the gaskets, and clean out the burn chamber. If you let it go and just try to ride it out, it won't correct itself, and it'll get to the point where it won't be able to ignite, then, on top of that, after multiple failed ignition attempts, it locks the ECU, and then the only way to unlock it is with the diagnostic tool. -
Did you know Espar used to make the gasoline fired auxiliary heater for air cooled VW's? Espar sells a gas version of their heater for VW owners who want to add a heater or replace an old one.

My 2016 prostar bunk heater just started bellowing white smoke from tailpipe under cab..... Should i be worried?
-
Needs maintenance, either carbon plugged up screen and/or plugged up vent hole

I'm surprised trucks don't have carbon monoxide detectors. I put a combon monoxide/smoke detector in my sleeper. Not expensive.

It burns when I pee should I be worried.

Second this. It has carbon build up. Screen, flame tube, and, less frequently, the injector or nozzle inside can get carbon build up, causing the smoke.
