Morning All,
I'm looking at getting my CDL once I get done with the military in a year and a half and was wondering the quickest way to get into the food service profession. Ideally looking at Grand Rapids, MI area or Johnson City, TN area. Any help would be appreciated!

I would look to see if they have any minimum driving experience required. You basically are unloading and delivering food stuff and driving is the second part of the job. So if you have the driving experience if they need any. You would be good to go. It's a lot of work and really early morning from what I had seen. They start work like 3am but go home by 3pm or something
Rottedlog and CrappieJunkie Thank this. -
I did food service in Cincinnati. The weather could kick your butt fast. If its cold and ice gets on your ramp, great chance of getting hurt.
In the south have chance of heat stroke. Id take my chances in the south.Rottedlog Thanks this. -
If your having trouble getting a food service job try beverage it pays a little less but after a year any food service company will be a lot more willing to hire you..... also some places have lots of trouble finding guys and will hire fresh cdl holders so even if it says one year experience preferred apply anyway

Thank you guys all for the assistance! Sadly my MOS in the is less than useful in the civilian world.
I'll work on getting my CDL and getting my foot in the door. Right now from the research of the areas its GFS in GR or Reinhart in Johnson City. Not freezing my butt off for the next 30 years sounds pretty great though.
Final question, is the salary for that type of work really as good as I've seen you guys posted? I definitely don't mind hard work so if putting in a lot of sweat equity pays I'm more than willing! -
Rottedlog Thanks this.
