It's been busy over here. That roller tarp coming off track and the long unload times kinda had a domino effect. It put me 30 minutes short of being able to get back to Spring Hill on Wednesday...as soon as I hit the yard first thing Thursday, they were asking when I could be in Knoxville. They sent me a load that delivered at noon Friday, then take my flatbed to Church Hill and drop it, and pick up another flatbed there (why? I have no clue, I asked that, but my dispatcher said, because they want you to...and it's 175 extra miles...so I didn't argue). Then take that empty to Spring Hill, and pick up a load that delivers in Grenada MS 1st thing Tuesday. In the last 10 days, I will be over 4000 miles, 3 unloads, 2 trailer moves (but no partridge in a pear tree)...but I did have 1 breakdown...

Saw the end result of another shoulder parked truck getting rear ended...or at least that is how it appears. I hadn't found any news reports about it, but when you see:
Parked in front of a scene like this (a heavy lift wrecker trying to pick up the trailer's rear end)
And the plastic bumper of a car laying next to the drive tandems...the news generally isn't good. It was on I-24 x-40 exit ramp west of NashvilleLast edited: Apr 14, 2018

Story says driver was traveling at a high rate of speed and toxicology report is pending. Guessing when report comes back that the car driver was in addition to speeding was driving under the influence will still cost trucking company millions of dollars to settle the law suit that the car drivers family will bring.

Driver better hope he had his triangles out and four ways on, or he will be held accountable.
-
You have 10 minutes to put your triangles out.

I realize that, but if they check his ECM and see he had been parked longer than 10 minutes, he will automatically be at fault.
Years ago I worked for a company and we had a driver parked on an exit ramp. A drunk driver came off the interstate and plowed into the back of the trailer, killing himself in the process. Even though the driver was drunk, his family sued the carrier, and won because the truck was illegally parked.Lonesome Thanks this. -
Same thing happened to a CFI driver many many years ago. A couple girls were coming home from a party, the one driving passed out and hit a parked CFI truck, killing her friend, and admitted to the cops what she did, but her friend's family sued CFI and won a multi-million dollar settlement, all because he was parked on a ramp...runningman0661 Thanks this.

We also have this story from many years ago.
