I went to a werner school, and was trained by werner. The only legitimate complaint against werner is the JIT load for a trainer truck. My trainer ran me on recaps and kicked me out of bed before I was rested (6 hours actual sleep) for an idiot JIT load. Amazon can EAD.

Everything else is nonsense. Werner did an excellent job on my training. Without companies like werner, half of us wouldn’t have careers.

I’m really appalled by the amount of people on here excusing this verdict.
That’s like someone driving down the street in ice and hitting your house, yet you pay for the damages and get sued because your house is there.
That’s how much sense this entire lawsuit makes.

Family was headed home. Werner was headed to California on 20 hour straight run. Family only had one route to get home. Werner had a completely clear route to the north. Family loses control of car on black ice. Truck can’t stop due to 50 mph speeds. I repeat truck could not stop due to driving at excessive speeds for conditions. Family is amateur drivers in ice in West Texas. Werner is largest trucking company in the U.S. Werner is in the business of professional driving. Amateur drivers are not. Professional drivers know if they lose control of their rig - people die. Werner’s driver had never received training on winter driving. Not before the crash or after the crash. A few weeks before trial, Werner had its driver finally watch the winter driving video 4 years later. Ask yourself why? Finally, the professional driver scored so low on Werner’s testing that he was not allowed to drive by himself. Guys we aren’t talking about a squared away driver. We are talking about a private on the rifle range who forgets to put his weapon on safe and leaves his finger on the trigger and when the gun goes off he says... I didn’t know that could happen. The reality is the trial went on for 6 weeks. There is no way any of us will ever get the whole story in a single news article. Regardless, Texas is a red state. It’s conservative. If the verdict was $89m in Texas it would of been $500m in California.

And there in lies the flaw with your theory. The driver never lost control, even after impact.

Let that sink in. He never lost control.

This is no more, and no less than a sympathetic jury "feeling" that this woman now has major medical bills, and the evil big bad trucking company has millions of dollars.

We need tort reform for our industry. This verdict can not stand or Werner goes Chapter 7. They would have to haul for free for a year to pay for this. No one can operate that way. And I doubt their insurance covers anything over a million or two.

Wrong...the driver of the pickup was at fault...the facts came out saying that...the idiot jurors in Houston decided to give $90million tk someone who was negligent..btw they'll never see the money...it'll be tied up for yrs in court or the it'll get overturned.

A truck cannot maintain control on black ice at 50 miles per hour ergo there was no black ice.

He did not drive into any truck. Other trucks were on the road.

    He never lost control!

In 96 I got hit by a woman on the Ryan in Chicago who was in a diabetic blackout ...nobody hurt and she got some kind of ticket .
Sure enough a few months later her hubby had her lawyered up and wanted to sue me and my company who promptly told her to get bent ...never heard from them again .
