May Trucking is sending me to one of their bottom-of-the-barrel customer that almost no trucker likes unless they are somehow paid by the company to “like” them. I am thinking of saying no and sitting my butt and waiting. I have been there before and don’t feel like it is worth the miles and headaches to deal with them but I don’t know what the consequences will be. I’ve been with May for over a year (too long, I need to get out) and they still want to keep me even though I feel my performance has been deteriorating (my morale is low because the pay isn’t there). What should I do?

My first job I told them going in, 11 western states only and they agreed. So my very first load goes from California to Chicago. I did it out of fear for being fired. Once I got there and unloaded (in a blizzard) it took them 4 days to get me out of there heading west again not because of weather but no loads. The next time they tried it, I said no and they kept me on local short hauls for a week. I lasted 6 months then quit.

Run the load, if you have the hours. Then find a new job. Do not quit till you have new job lined up. Don't quit under dispatch and give them two weeks notice. Work the two weeks, if you're not let go.

If only quitting was easy. Quitting means I also have to find some kind of housing arrangement. OTR in the truck or actual room. It would be great if I can actually find any willing relatives or friends to board with where I want to live so I can actually apply for local work with living wages and better hours. Are there places where it is easy to find a decent, affordable room and become a resident of the state? I know some places want to sort of interrogate you and view your past history. I am a pretty clean and quiet person though. I love and prefer the northern Mountain and Central states. I have triples/doubles, tankers, and hazmat.

Since I really hate my life with May to the point of thinking about suicide and it is affecting my performance badly and I just want to quit, Jim Palmer seems like an okay choice to transition for the moment. They are OTR and I want to be moving away from OTR but at least they need people with 1 year of experience and not some fresh meat from trucking school. And they are based in Missoula MT. Any thoughts on Jim Palmer?

I’ve never given two weeks notice, if I quit I had a good reason, someone playing games, withholding freight for their buddies.
He’s going to say what Barbara Bush taught us, “Just say No!”
