your lack of insight precedes you. perhaps enlightenment regarding heart disease or diabetes would be far more valuable. in trucking - id guess it kills people at a rate of 10:1 when compared to “distracted driving”. it’s humorous at best to think a wireless headset is the answer to distracting phone conversations. the distraction is not in physically holding the phone.
my opinion - if you were trying to raise awareness and safety you’d push the real issues. not petty ######## about holding a phone to ones ear or 5 mph speeding violations. you’re a teachers pet with misdirection much larger than common sense.
we do agree on one thing - i stopped watching your vids last year.D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
Not a fair comparison.
In general DUI statutes are heavily skewed against the alleged offender.
Cell phone laws on the other hand will vary by state. -
My headset is to please the law. However, holding my cellphone to my ear does not hinder my ability to drive. I see with my ears, not my mouth. I hold the steering wheel with my hand, not my ear.
One can say "what if you have a steer blowout or your wheel jerks for whatever reason" To them, I have to ask. How long do you hold the wheel with both hands?
If you can't control your truck at 65mph using only one hand, and there's no mechanical hinderence to why you can't, you probably don't need to be driving. -
Cell Phone use isn't as risky as the 15-15-30 rule used for coasting through the wee hours of the night.
15 seconds of resting your eyes followed by 15 seconds of attentive inspection to ensure the safety of a 30 second eye break. -
That is why insurance companies are requiring this 'seeing eye' thing placed in all commercial vehicles. It isn't a video recorder, but it can detect if your head is turned too many degrees from the road for x amount of seconds and if you don't have both hands on the wheel for x amount of seconds.
This is coming I assure you. Either the government will mandate it or the motor carriers will be priced out of insurance without it. -
I see no downside to thisscottied67 Thanks this.

And I can't wait to see how long it lasts until the industry shuts down completely because of driver loss. Loss of driver, loss of profit. Higher insurance, loss of profit. There goes small fleets and owner operators. Megacarriers are next because they'll be firing drivers left and right.
ELD mandate was fine. That's my excuse to tell the customer to sod off it gets there when it gets there. But that right there is taking a step too far. That's like that thing with filming a driver while he drives, what I do in my cab is my privacy. If I want to hold the steering wheel with my third leg, I'll hold the steering wheel with my third leg. -
And people wonder why the megas are heading toward autonomous vehicles..............

Because the machine doesn't complain about hometime, mileage, shipper/customer, the truck, where it's going, ect. Most importantly the machine can very rarely be at fault for an accident. The machine does not have to run a log book. The machine only needs fuel.
The only problem here. It will be a long time before that happens. Because the machine is not, and never will be able to adapt to road conditions. Traffic patterns. Able to recognize hazards. Look at them now, they need a babysitter. If the machine gets confused, it requests a human take control. If human doesn't take control, machine stops.
So it's going to be a very long time before that happens.
