So, earlier this evening I pulled into a TA in Kentucky. Place was fairly clustered as per the usual for the place.

I’m rolling around back to get turned around and leave, there’s a driver backing up into some pretty wide open reserve spots.

Obviously, I stop, wait on the gentleman to back up. Well right where he’s backing is bright yellow reserve sign. You’ve seen them so you know what I’m talking about.

I notice the guys gonna hit it but his tractors turned, he can’t see me. Laid on the big horn a few times trying to get his attention hoping he would stop. He popped it with his trailer, pulled forward and popped it a little bit again. Well then he starts going backwards, so it’s looking like he’s gonna run it over. I got out ran over there and snatched it out the way.

I realize it’s only a flimsy reserve sign, but it’s the point behind it.

No one is perfect, we ALL mess up. But what happened to paying attention to surroundings, and acting like you gave a ####. No, this was NOT a mega carrier.

Then, right after a guy in a Volvo comes around both of us, stopping on the end cap, between the shop and last parking spot barely leaving room for anyone to get out. What gives?

Is that what we as people come to? I got mine.. #### everybody else.

The money grab that is the $15 reserve spot is nonsense. Have a parking lot with 200 spots and 80 of them cost money, ha.. I smile when I see those signs flipped over and bent out of shape from angry truckers.

Point wasn’t about the sign per se as it was what if something else had been sitting there.

As the majority sink lower and lower, it becomes easier to stand tall. Years ago, they didn’t have terms like “Man Up!”, because they were already Men. I know, friend, it’s deplorable to watch the rest of society sink into oblivion, but despite that, we should still endeavor to carry ourselves as Men.

They shouldn't put those signs directly in front of the parking spots, just asking to be hit.

Personally, I liked the reserved spaces. Gives me a shot at actually parking inside the lines, coming in at strange hours. Used them frequently, when I actually had a need to use a truck stop.

You all know this and I'm going to be that guy and say it anyway, but the point here is not reserved parking slot vs. free, it's knowing what's behind your trailer before you start backing it in. If you didn't get a good hard look down the space and immediately start backing, get out and walk back there to make sure. I don't care if Joe Always Late is honking at you, check your six. There's more than one way to play the "Me First" game, and in this case it's putting yourself and your rig first by not hitting the scenery, while ignoring any 30-mph-in-the-parking-lot blowhards who might be momentarily inconvenienced by someone doing the right thing.

Volvo drivers will not be deterred by some silly sign.
