Load Board Rates

I try not to use load boards much I have my brokers that I use but even they have nothing. I been forced to use load boards lately and just looking for a load to haul today wasn't working. I was only able to move 2 loads a week. Finally i smartened up and started booking loads days in advance and its been working. But even that has its problems had a load cancelled on me after i got to shipper wait 2 hours then they said it was cancelled earlier in the week. nobody bothered to let broker know load was cancelled. pretty much messed the rest of the week up and had to sit for the day cause all loads were gone for the day.

 

it's harder to get a good rate from a Brooker that you don't work with a lot more than a couple days in advance especially on the coasts. . I try to stay 4 or 5 days ahead when I can . rates are still good but not like it was in June but should start picking up after labor day. I try to avoid spot market loads anyways as much as possible .. I will take good loads a few days out before I have a connecting load and work to it which can be challenging at times but I make it work

 

Hello everyone, I am new to trucking and was hoping to get some help. The rates out of Florida are abusive, there is no respect for the driver and there expenses. Is there anyone that I can report this too.

 

Is this a serious post? The only thing you can do is say "No" to cheap freight.

 

Yes, there are bunch of truckers Facebook groups, you can join and complain there. Lots of people do it, you won't be alone

 

I went to Florida maybe 5 times in the last 2 years and only once I hauled a load out of there...it was 1 dol a mile deal. Other times, I deadheaded to Georgia, Kentucky...on one occasion I went as far as Indiana. The rule of thumb is that when you go down there, the move must be a good enough money maker so that any backhaul is just a supplement to the money you made going down there. I never, ever stay there waiting...always get out.

I've done this exercise before, however, here's an offer sheet I just received this morning from a lumber broker that does a LOT of business in the PNW.

Take a look at these pitiful offers...

I included the mileage in red myself. I know for a fact their take is at least 35% on top of these rates. Yet, there are guys lined up to haul these crap loads back down to California so they can get supposed "good paying" loads back up here.

As long as there are folks willing to take them, this is the way it will continue as it has for years and years.

 

The reality is this, these rates aren't even paying (in most cases) what it cost to run the truck back down, and in some cases it's actually costing the company who runs these loads more than what they're are getting!
