Petro 2 in Clearwater, MN. They advertise "donuts as big as your head". While this is an exaggeration, it's only slightly exaggerated. Their "cream stick" variety (they call them long-johns up there) are almost as big as a subway foot long, and their round donuts (glazed and filled, etc.) are bigger than a softball in diameter. All baked in-house every morning.
The 2nd best, the Petro 2 in Sturtevant WI (Racine). Their cream sticks aren't filled, they cut them long ways and spread the filling in them, so they aren't a donut, they're a 'filling' sandwich.runningman0661, Oldironfan, ncmickey and 1 other person Thank this. -

The local favourite is the Persian. Persian Man bakery here regularly get orders to ship dozens across Canada so they put the icing in a separate tub for air travel.
Grocery store on Hwy at Kakabeka Falls On has big truck parking and their own special Persians available!! My opinion the Current River Bakery here makes the best Persian on the planet.

Mountain Top, PA. They make it AFTER you order it and it comes out warm and fresh with whatever topping or coating you ask for!
Jazz1 Thanks this. -
I’m still pissed at PFJ for disallowing stores to bring in fresh, locally made donuts and pastries. I’m not at all impressed with the mandatory selection of bakery item crap they made all stores go to a few years ago. I think I’m going to write another letter.

Dunkin are nasty! Krispi Kreme is the worst though IMO.
Everything is the US is faster and cheaper! But with the cheap stuff (doughnuts, etc...) why not just make them RIGHT and charge a little more or even friggin double if need be.
Basically any company driven by investors sucks for consumers. -
But you can thank Michelle Obama for the removal of locally made donuts from truck stops. The stupid requirement to have calorie counts posted for every food item sold messed up a lot of good eats availability at all chain operationsJazz1 Thanks this.
