Good thing he wasn't hauling hazmat. I'm a lot more cautious now at railroad crossings hauling chemicals than I was in a flatbed.

I used to travel to La Paz, Mexico in Baja several times a year for business. The factory always set me up to stay in the Hotel Los Arcos IIRC the name correctly. At first I chose the second floor balcony (top floor) so I could get a nice view of the bay at sunset. After a few sleepless nights I changed rooms, overlooking the inner courtyard. Much much better sleep there.
The rooms overlooking the bay had highway 11 right in front of the balcony. Apparently it is a sport to cruise the highway with your windows rolled down blasting your stereo with volume turned to Stun. It didn't matter what time of day or night, there was a constant "Oompa pa" beat of German influenced Mexican music. It didn't matter if you had a beat up jalopy or a big rig, everyone tried to win the game.
That courtyard room, in the other hand, was amazing. The trees in the courtyard would erupt with songbirds at dawn. THAT'S how to wake up from a good night's sleep!
That driver had his windows rolled up, a definite "no no" when crossing train tracks, ESPECIALLY if you are blind on one side. The likelihood he was listening to deafening music is high.
