I've had a very similar situation. I never heard or knew that trucks were required to stay in the two far right lanes. I was coming through Los Angeles on the interstate to head north. They have a section of like 7 or 8 lanes and they were all moving twice the speed of the two far right lanes (which were moving all of about 5mph). I noticed something was odd when I didnt see a single truck on either side of the interstate that was outside the two far right lanes. But I said "screw it, whats the worst that could happen?". Little did I know there was a motorcycle cop a little ways behind. I switched to the third lane and immediately the cop comes beside me lights blazing and signals for me to move back over. Lucky for me, once I moved over he just went about his day.

No idea about Cali, but there’s a stretch between Little Rock and south of Benton (Arkansas) that’s restricted to the two right lanes for trucks. You get caught in lane 1 (hammer lane) and you’ll get nailed for $300.

It’s frustrating because it seems like every 63 mph truck on the road parks in the center lane.

The 60 mile an hour cars do the same as well as trying to merge onto the freeway while hitting the brakes. I've even gotten a ticket on a three Lane being in the Middle Lane for a little while so that all the slowpokes could merge on the right lane and I got busted for that because I wasn't passing

If the lane is restricted, yes it will be a moving violation. I got a left lane ticket in GA a few years back and it was considered a "Serious Offense", I received a letter from my home state stating that if I got 1 more serious offense within 3 years, I would be disqualified for 60 days

I drive that route every day and there are always drivers getting nailed along there in both directions, it is one of the worst interchanges in the state. The two freeways merge and half the cars are changing lanes to take the other freeway, all this happens in about 2 and a half miles.

CSA-who care about than nonsense? If a company wants you they wont worry about it. I never even consider CSA as anything other than a way so scare drivers and prescribed by individuals who had nothing better to do than make their job look important. I don't waste time with companies that even mention that because you know they will pick at every and any little thing that comes up while you work there. They need you-you don't need them. Thats been my philosophy since I started trucking.

    Hey Everybody,
Hoping for some advice here or opinions. Was traveling 101 North today North of San Francisco and was in #2 lane of 5 lanes. Cellphone snitches good doers had chp waiting for me where 580 merges into 101. I realize I was wrong passing congestion with no little truck camouflage on a Sunday afternoon. Any chance I can beat this with lawyer? Look for accidents and traffic stops at that that time? Claim safety that people were cutting me off? Once chp was behind me people made room and let me in #5 lane. Thanks.
