I don’t think it’s too bad. My company pays 1.70/mi for all hub but it’s dry or reefer, not FB.
If you think about it your company is providing a lot.
Liabaility insurance
Cargo insurance
Trailer costs
Plates
IFTA
ELD
Tolls
Scale Pass
Washouts
Scale costs
Assuming it’s weekly pay while they wait
Dispatch
Plus I’m sure more I’m not thinking of.
Just saying keep the full picture in mind. A lot of guys only think about loaded pay and not the full all miles pay. As long as your getting pretty good miles atleast 2000+ per week then your not doing bad. There is always a better deal out there but there will be it’s own unique set of downsides.Rideandrepair, DSK333, fordconvert and 1 other person Thank this. -
So your netting like 1.22 a mile after fuel. Assuming your around 45 cents a mile on fuel. It's a little low. 2900 a week after 2400 miles it's low. But it's easy and your putting miles on your truck. I sit at tank washes after I unload to wait to get cleaned. I'm closer to 1.5 a mile after fuel and company deductions, but I have more dead time.

Glad to see you have your numbers, that allows for a factual discussion.
For me,
2015 - $1.69
2016 - $1.90
2017 - $2.10
2018 - $2.80 (so far).
This is leased to a carrier, with my own trailer. Flat, and extendable flat.
The 2017 and 2018 numbers showed improvement with the specialized trailer, over the standard flat.
I’ve focused on the numbers closely in the 4 years, as I find it encouraging to see improvement or decline on a monthly basis, and consider the strategies employed in a short time frame, rather than leaving it till year end.
I think you have ample room for improvement, where do you personally see those opportunities?20 Mule Team, TallJoe and 77fib77 Thank this. -
Opportunities?? Hmmm well the company i pull trailers for hauls alot of lightweight freight typically 10k-15k pounds and rarely into the 20k range on all the outbound freight.
So what ive done so far is established a “hotshot” truck and bought two trailers for hauling freight on the out bound. The hotshot is doing well but the added expenses of hotels, paying w2 driver, and truck payment. The truck (2017 F450) does get decent fuel mileage pulling trailer 8-9mpg on ifta.
The hotshot grosses $1.53 a mile so far in 6 months all miles. They have trouble finding good return loads... the owner of the carrier is very optimistic about my hotshot work out of their customer.blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
How many miles have you ran in each of these years, if you don’t mind me askingblairandgretchen Thanks this.

Sure - these are within 5k of exact figures.
2015 - 110k
2016 - 80k
2017 - 85k
2018 - 67k to date. -

When i first bought my truck i was doing $2.25 per mile on 2,100 miles per week. Carrier reimbursed plates & 2290, reffer trailers at no cost, all frieght was out & back, weekends off. Head hauls were light: 10k or less, back hauls were 42,000 ( but only had 2 per week). I paid bob tail insurance, truck payment, fuel, tolls, maintenance, taxes, & myself.
