I run a 'dashcam' on my forehead so I can see not only what is out front but what is happening in my mirrors.

So does the fool in the video you shared .. plows can hit road cracks or built up ice and lurch quickly to the side .. this guy filming passes at a improper speed and doesn’t move over much if any at all... I guess he doesn’t know plows have the right of way and it don’t matter if the camera shows the plow over the line

So you would follow the plow at 35 mph with salt and sand blasting your paint and windshield? yeah sure you would.

Do you think the driverless trucks when they come will be intuitive enough to move over across the fogline to give more room to a driverless snowplow in case it hits a crack in the road and violently veers into the passer's lane?

If you don’t get right on the plow then you won’t get sandblasted, just saying. Not sure how it is everywhere, but in many states out west the plow has the right of way and there’s usually signs saying not to pass the plow or don’t pass the plow on the right. In MT and ID most plows monitor this neat thing called the cb radio and usually if you communicate with them it pretty easy to get around, or if you’re on a 2 lane road they might say where they’re pulling off or turning around.

Montana has started using the plows on swing trailers behind the plow truck so they can do both lanes at once. I can see more states doing that in the future. One guy plows both lanes, they don’t have to worry about people trying to get around then. Everyone just follows at 30-35 until the plow pulls off and let’s everyone by.

In most States it's illegal to pass a snow plow or any other vehicle on the right.

Interesting and first time seeing this, which is a good thing because otherwise I would think the guy is jacknifing.

If a plow has his blade down scraping snow, nobody Has any reason to be doing the speed limit. People often forget speed limits are “conditions permitting”. So yeah the Op’s friend got a vaild and well deserved ticket.

@mitmaks so what happened to your friend? Did he fight it or just accept the ticket?
