With everyone around you getting worse, you have to get better. Traffic continues to get worse, you continue to improve. @homeskillet mentioned “spidey sense.” That’s the ability to see the disaster before it happens.

The Adventures of Dummy, Dingleberry and Stupid (the Darwins)

Can you read traffic? Of course you can! If you can’t driving a semi, you’ve already killed someone! Every day, every place has a different “flow” to it. Get a base line behavior, adjust for the baseline driving behavior, and then LOOK for the anomalies. As soon as you see the anomalies in the baseline traffic flow, BET ON SOMETHING BAD ABOUT TO HAPPEN.

In my post about the Darwin’s, Stupid is the intelligent one. What makes him stupid is he sees the anomalies but chooses not to take precautions. His intelligence failed him.

One more thing, reward yourself by getting out of the truck for a 34. It will help you unwind and recharge and stay sane. And every day be sure to get proper rest. Sleep is the best reward for a long day.

    Luck in battle.

Back before the dawn of time when cabovers still roamed the earth the old hand who trained me said, "just expect everyone you see driving around your truck to do the stupidest thing they can 90% of the time..." best advice ever and has saved my butt more times than I can remember.

I drive Chicago a fair amount, and I know a place to take a nap during the rush. which varies somewhat at times, the outbound Stevenson is usually good long after inbound clogs up.

Last trip, I managed to drive out after 6am, inbound was slowed before 530. I talked them into dropping the cross town stop where they'd been dropping it for some time, I don't know why it had changed but it saved me from parking until after 930 to drive 13 miles on mostly arterials without waiting through multiple stoplights. Western to 290 to Harlem to Grand.

    It is ;)

Knew a girl (not a woman) that thought it was her civic duty to show her boobs to every trucker she could. All the while she was Miss Proper to the locals. ;)

Don’t know where she is now. Probably stripping somewhere far away.

In all my years of driving I've never been flashed. And some guys see it all the time. I must just travel the wrong highways.

I used to get it all the time. Not so much now. Actually I might, I just don’t look down as much.

My all time favorite was the carload holding up a sign. Hooters for Horns.
