$2000 possible if I were so inclined to work 70 hours a week with a sharp crayon but thats not going to happen, not in this lifetime. Theres more to life than making a living
BigDog Trucker and EuropeanTrucker Thank this. -
I run linehaul for one of the mentioned LTL's in this thread, and it's doable to make $2k+ a week on linehaul. Don't expect to walk in off the streets and get that run, or wage though. I have a one, and it requires dock work on both ends loading freight at out facility, and then at the break bulk. Pretty much the most you could make on my run would be $2175/week, which is $113k a year. That would be maximizing every minute, and dragging back in on your 14, and being back at work after your 10. I prefer a 12hr day, and $1800+/wk. More to life than working.

Since SAIA was mentioned I will post this as a example, we have five turn runs at our barn that are 608mi round trip, .66 cpm × 608mi = $401.28, $401.28 × 5 days = $2006.40 gross for the week, they rarely get drop and hook pay because in most cases the trailers they are taking out are already hooked and the set that they bring back usually stays together to relay on, these are considered the best runs at the terminal and no they don't net $2000 or over, but they are home every day, however these five dudes ain't going nowhere anytime soon and worked their way up to those runs, I wish the OP the best of luck but I think this will be the case at any of the LTLs give or take some dollars, and I won't even get into how the system's board works or what can be made, OP stated that they need to be home every day.

Best bet for a rookie at a company is to run extraboard and try to run and stay out as long as possible, run on your day off, etc etc. Even then if your bottom of pay scale it's going to be difficult to make $2k a week. I had a 650 mile run and made somewhere around 2100-2200 a week. Going to be next to impossible to average that running extraboard on 5 days. 6 days you could probably get close 3000, or over if your running in a spread out region and they keep you busy. But have one or 2 400 mile days and there goes that.
I dont think anyone in LTL is NETTING 2k a week, MAYBE a UPSF guy who is topped out and has a 625+ mile run. Not sure though.
Lastly running that many miles night after night is very taxing on you physically and mentally. I know a lot of guys do it but I was ready to tap out after 6 months. Do your run, rush home, eat, shower, sleep, if your lucky get 8 hours, more likely 7, get up and rush to work to do it again. Night. After night. After night. -
Wife and i get home daily for 4 hrs linehaul team with R+l carriers. We have a turn and burn paying $1920 each gross per week. But UPS is the only solo linehaul I can think of home daily

This week was not typical in that i worked at small pack the day after thanksgiving and thus made a crapload of overtime as you can see.
As i said, i would never work at small pack permanently. Too boring and the atmosphere is just weird to me. It's ok to make extra $$$ though.
Although the question is now moot because corporate says we cannot go to small pack anymore. -
Mondelez global I'm home every night no weekends all holidays off... 37k in OT this year
speedyk Thanks this. -
