hello everyone.i been thinking about making career change from trucking.i pull step-deck under my own authority and do fairly well. All of my equipment is paid off.I got into trucking because i always had passion for it.i been trucking for about 5 years now and always enjoyed it.but lately i don't what has gotten into me much as the used to enjoy trucking i HATE it now.i am not seeing a future in trucking anymore.as you guys know trucking industry is way over regulated.and i think it will get worse before it gets any better.the amount of risk we take the pay is just not there anymore.I do majority of the maintenance on my equipment myself.so i don't mind turning wrenches.i really been considering becoming aviation technician(aircraft mechanic).i am only 27 years old and i think i still have time to do something else.plus with having family down the road i don't want to be away from home.i know ill see decrease in pay but if i think it will payoff in the long term with the benefits.let me know what you guys think? should i make the switch or stick with trucking?

Well driver, it sounds like you have already answered your own question. I fully understand your motives. The good news is that you are only 27 years old and as you stated, you still have plenty of time to make a career change. Actually, I commend you for having your own authority and being a business owner at such a young age. With that type of work ethic, I'm sure you will succeed at whatever career you decide to pursue. Best of Luck to you driver.
Roadking96 and Badmon Thank this. -
I actually did the opposite. Came from a corporate, cubicle job into the owner-op with own authority realm. I am glad to be out of the corporate rat race and the cubicle side of things and enjoy the flexibility and stresses that come along with being a business owner and working for yourself/calling the shots.
With that said, if you don't enjoy it anymore, I definitely advocate doing what you feel is best for you in the long run. As mentioned, you are still young and have plenty of time to shift gears into a different field. Enjoying what you do definitely makes getting up and doing it a heck of a lot easier. All just my opinion of course.Mr.hustle, Roadking96, Midwest Trucker and 1 other person Thank this. -

Refrigerated trailer mechanic might be a good choice. There's schools and training available for that.

Loving your job should be one of your top priorities in life. Take it from one who has grandchildren your age. Life is meant to be lived in joy.

Agreed with others - if you HATE getting up in the cab - or under it with a grease gun, then pursue something else.
If you’re financially able - park the rig, put the authority on ice, try something new.
Trucking will always be there.
Good luck.Roadking96, Badmon and UturnGirl Thank this. -
Not sure about the ‘joy’ and all that happy clappy stuff - but - not miserable.
