What makes you a wage slave is the fact that you need to sacrifice long term well being, income, health to get just enough of money to live another day here and now. I wonder about the high rolling truckers dispensing all those protect your cdl advice. What planet are you from? For most trucker immediate need for cash trumps all other concerns, some are more desperate than others and you can join them warp speed any time.

From the looks of this particular employer there isn’t much cash to be made,if ANY at all! With a poor safety record with only TWO TRUCKS and DRIVERS, sounds the OP is just paying the bills of the company (just barely) and getting little to nothing in return!
A company like that I would’ve been out the door!:cya:

Are you saying most truckers are idiots? I disagree. Most are pretty sharp. But, and to your point, there are a lot of truckers that don’t possess the skills necessary to manage their own finances. Thus, they hire own with any scumbag outfit that they perceive will pay their bills.

And those, to my point, are the idiots that will overlook the tell tale signs of a scumbag outfit because they see perceived big paychecks.

This. I understand needing to get bills paid, really I do. But if you find an outfit claiming that you’re going to be bringing home a good paycheck and their equipment is beat up and junk, then you have to ask yourself where the disconnect is.

If a trucking company is willing to offer you, the driver, a good paycheck, then where is the money going back into the equipment? How can they pay you a decent wage if they can’t even take care of their own equipment?

Some may not want to hear this, but I’ll state it anyway. If you’re running a company whereby solid, well kept equipment is fundamental to keep revenue flowing in, that is more important than paying higher wages to the driver. It’s just like any other business. The tools and resources necessary to bring in revenue have to come first. Once you have good, dependable equipment supporting revenue streams then, and only then, can you afford to pay drivers what they deserve. This is why it is so difficult to start any business and why many businesses fail.

It can be a full time job looking for the right company to work for. Not a perfect company, but one where the business owners have their priorities straight, a good business model, and treat their employees like a business partner and an asset. Of course you have also have to be an asset for these types of companies to want to hire you. That’s why I stated that you need to protect your CDL license.

I’m not a “high rolling trucker”, heck I’ve only been at this about 11 months. You want work for some of the best, you need to be some of the best. And that starts with having a professional attitude and business like mindset that has goals of where you want to go in your chosen profession. You also need to decide who you will and will not work for/with.

I have goals and aspirations, will I get there? Only time will tell. But I can say this, without the above aforementioned, it is almost a gaurantee that I won’t.

I truly hope that the OP finds a good company to work for.

I'm from planet earth or at least a matrix that has programed me to believe I'm from planet earth.
Some truckers have an immediate need for cash because of debt or poor spending habits. But I think more are just to lazy to seek out companies that may require more then a on-line application to get hired.

The advise in keeping ones CDL as clean as possible is sound. Don't know why it leaves you in wonderment that it is suggested ?

But regardless of the OP's situation or how he got there. He has fullfilled part of the purpose of this forum. Which is to warn drivers about bad company's. We don't really need a dozen comments calling him a knucklehead for signing on with these donkey's. A couple would suffice IMO.
