This is the equipment that you are required to carry on your flatbed: Two lumber tarps (6 ft or 8 ft drop), two steel tarps, (50) 21 inch rubber tarp straps, (50) 31 inch rubber tarp straps, (12) 4 inch nylon straps, (4) 2 inch ratchet straps, (6) 20 foot chains (5/16 or 3/8), (6) 25 foot chains (5/16 or 3/8), (12) binders, (24) plastic edge protectors (12 inch v board preferred), (10) coil racks, plus your chain rack. For comparable equipment pricing call or visit a Utility Trailer dealership, check out US Cargo Control or a tarp manufacturer. If you can afford to buy an enclosed cabinet for your equipment, do so. Your equipment will appreciate not being subjected to snow, ice, salt, dirt, sand, mud, etc.
I also carry in addition to the above moving blankets to pad sharp loads and protect my tarps, (12) 4x4x8 dunnage, and additional 4 winches on my trailer and at least 6 additional 4 inch straps. I also have four pipe stakes made of 4 inch u channel, three foot v-boards made of 1x4 with strapping.
If you can purchase some of this before joining Mercer by buying a little at a time each week, the financial burden may not be that great of a strain. Best of luck in your future open deck career.Cat sdp Thanks this. -
But you can only use their load board... that’s a deal breaker not relying on FCFS good ol boy favoritism. But good people work there.

Have you been leased on here before?thaistick and PoleCrusher Thank this.

I think the word "required" is a bit strong.thaistick and PoleCrusher Thank this.
-
Its not FCFS. Its first empty first offered. Really only makes a difference if youre in a dead area and theres lots of trucks there.PoleCrusher and thaistick Thank this.

Yeah cause thats not exactly correct.
For tarps and bungees you can get what you want. I have 3 4' drops, and 2 smoke tarps. 100 21" bungees. It's a good idea to be able to cover a full 48x8x8 load, just in case, but it's not a requirement.
In fact I think the only requirement is a headache rack. It's pretty much up to you what you want for securement. Its a good idea to not limit yourself too much though.cke, JonJon78, Rickp and 1 other person Thank this. -
I think a better way to put it is first empty first option to book. And yeah it isn't even a factor 99.9% of the time.
-
Nope, but when you been at home a month and your ready to come back to work, it's nice knowing you got first dibs at the best freight....mtoo, Rickp and PoleCrusher Thank this.
