Question. I’m going on the dry van side do you keep the same trailer or do you drop and hook at some places and do I need straps.

You will need 16 straps but you can get them from Mercer for much cheaper than a truckstop. Not sure about other places.

You will keep the same trailer most of the time but they did have some drop and hook customers but it was very minimal.

Thanks for the reply. I’ll be heading there on the 4th hopefully the rates start to pick up a little by then.

So what happens when you use a dozen of your straps on a load then get told to drop that trailer? Does the company replace your straps, and what if you need them on the next load?

I’ve never dropped a loaded trailer. I did 3 drop and hooks and went from a new trailer to an old one with bald tires and very beat up, so I went and bought my own.

Someone would be buying me new straps or I wouldn't be dropping the trailer. The load board shows if the load is a drop or not but I don't think I ever saw a drop delivery.

I just avoided the drop and hook loads.

They would if whoever. Was pulling it took it to a shop. I had to take it and get tires replaced also I don’t think it had ever been washed. It looked like the driver before me had engine problems cause there was a film of diesel all over the front and down the passenger side.

I've done about 6 D&H. I think 5 have been preloaded trailer and live unload at the consignee. The 1 D&H at both ends didn't have a seal. Never worried that Mercer wouldn't replace straps. They've always had my back when needed.
And I've turned in trailers when taking extended hometime, maybe 4 times, so with that and the 5 or 6 D&H's I've never once had a problem with a trailer, not even a marker light out. Tires and brakes have always been 90%, and Mercer doesn't run recaps. Very pleased with the quality of equipment...
