Pay for truck operators has failed to keep up with inflation since 1980, effectively slashing truckers’ wages by nearly a third, according to analyst Gordon Klemp, president of the National Transportation Institute.
Klemp, who spoke Feb. 26 on a conference call with investors and reporters, said truckers wages averaged $38,618 annually in 1980. If adjusted to 2015 dollars, that would be over $111,000 a year, Klemp said.

I just left Marten because their crap maintenance. Like putting worn out drums back on to save a few bucks, but the brake shoes only grab the out side edge of the worn drum making the truck pull to one side. And putting the springs in wrong so they drag on the hub and cut into it. I did average .48 to .50 a mile so the pay is good if you live to spend it. -
The op is a troll ...nothing less..

Sounds like someone needs to buy a truck and be their own boss. That will be way easier than dealing with companies and then he can pay himself $1 per mile for driving if he wants to.

Nobody except maybe a few senior union freight-hauler drivers were making anywhere near 48 cents (mile rate only) in 1985. I too call BS.Upinsmoke Thanks this.

Why? from what I was told the shop that make a repair that repair goes on their budget and counts against them. Which is why I got a truck from Edwards ville with 3 dead batteries, Bad steer brakes drive tires with 5/32 to 9/32 tread. That tread depth is fine if you run south. I got stuck running out of Tomah to the U.P. in deep snow. Plugged davco filter, coolant that got slushy in single digit temps and set off the low coolant alarm. a drivers door with a broken stop (never drop your keys with the door open because it will swing back as soon as you stand up
and get you in the back) I took it back to Eville 3 time to get it fixed no joy. By the way the shop in tomah would not let me back the truck out after they saw how bad the brakes wore. I stayed in the shop that night and they fixed it the next day. As for the davco filter it was last replaced in September of 18 so good job on keeping those truck maintained.
Upinsmoke Thanks this.
