Macropoint - $250 Fine

Fine print allows the app access to phone calls and contacts. Regardless if they use it or not, My phone is my business and has other customer info. I now just tell them I do not have a smart phone. Only ever missed a load or two. I will verbally tell them before I accept load. But record all calls.

Had them try the after the fact and advised them I was not informed so it was not binding. This is when I offer to redirect load to my yard and they can reschedule a redirect order and new rate sheet. That is the only location it will be taken too at that point.

 

Every app requires access to phone and contacts so caller id can work when an incoming call happens while the app is up.

 

Just get a second phone strictly for macropoint.

 

Don’t think for a moment that they are not using the information the app gathers. They are.

 

So you are suggesting macropoint is not only accessing your contacts info but uploading it and sending it to the broker and manufacturer of the goods you are shipping? Is that really what you are saying?

 

Lot of information is gathered for free and then used to make $$$$ later on.

Example of what I’m saying..... I grew up in a family of water well drillers. Back in late 70’s early 80’s the health dept decided to make all these new rules and laws for drillers, and home owners. For the driller, certain specifications had to be met on casing installation for one thing. Big question was.... why was it all of a sudden required for the drillers to keep a log of each hole, showing at what depths the earth changed formations? Keep in mind you had to pay for this permit, but you got nothing for your time and all this free information.

I had that macro point or what ever it is on my other phone working with cheap and heavy brokers. Then I got to noticing that no matter how many miles I was from my rig, it showed the city I was in even though I was off duty doing a 34 at home. I personally don’t trust any of them, but that’s me.

Oh and these health dept officials were just like the officials at the FMCSA, made rules about things they themselves had no idea how to operate!!

 

Not contacts, but the information they do collect they are more than happy to sell. It's not worry or conspiracy or speculation. It's right in their privacy policy.

I have tried to tell people this.

 

Sort of. Your contact info has little value, but your locations do. With nothing more than location data and time, doing a little research, reconstructing the travel is not that hard to do. From that, it would give load/unload, fuel, rest stops and a few other things. With that information, a database of can be constructed to show truck movements. The data can be used to analyze lanes, rates, and several other things. The big one is potential the customers that could be generated from the data. That IS worth a lot.

Today, data of various types is where the value is.
Take loyalty cards, sure you get something from it, discounts or free items, but your data is worth more than the give away. Every time you use it, they collect data, what you purchased, location, the dollar amount. You are now the product.

 

Funny thing is almost every driver complaining about that is on Facebook. How many of you here have Facebook accounts but won't use macropoint? Mark Zuckerberg makes his billions off of your personal information and browsing habits that you freely allow him to collect and sell to advertisers without complaint. It's the exact same thing no different. What can you do though?
