I was just wondering if it’s common to make an OTR driver do a dedicated guys run? I was given a 150mile run with 3 stops....and it delivered 3 days after pickup. Not really enjoying the miles with this. Did I mention I hate Maryland.

Those guys usually get paid a little better..
If you're doing more than one load make sure you get paid a bit extra... ;)

Its common to grab a truck close by, maybe no one else in the area. Might be a good time to make points for later.

It is. If you are the guy that lives close, or just closer than what they have available, then you are the next canidate to take the postion. It isn't about seniority. It's about them making money and not needing to worry about getting you back a long distance for home time.

That sort of assignment is not unusual...the dead time is. If it were a one stop delivery I would be asking to deliver early or drop somewhere. But that doesn't sound like a likely option with a 3 stop run.

It's OK to help out once in a while, but you will be taken advantage of every time.

I no longer do Walmart surge or Target holiday stuff. I turn it down flat. The same with any dedicated garbage, because once they grab you it can be hard to get back out again.
Just like taking a load to the western states. It is a black hole that that sucks you right down to SoCal and it requires a home time request to free you.

That's a bit painful and wasteful. They couldn't drop that load in a drop yard or terminal and keep you busy on something else for 2 days?

Still, sometimes poop happens, and you have no choice but to step in it.

Turn your acceptance of this load into a better load later. Remind your dispatcher/manager that you took this extremely inefficient load, and that it would be nice if they can get you a nice, long cross-country load to bring your numbers back up.

You should be able to get a 34 in while under this load as well, which will make it possible for you to roll anywhere in the US without running out of hours on your 70.
