Houston tried for a year or so to get me to pay one. I probably would have had I even been there, but I wasn't so wasn't going to pay, as far as I know it never went on any record at all.

Legality depends on if he was already in the intersection before the lights turned red or not.

Texas legislature just passed a statewide law banning "Red Light Cameras". Any city that has them can continue until the contract end date. Goes into effect 9-1-2019. They can't do anything other than put something on your credit report if you don't pay. Can't do anything concerning license or registration.

I got a couple of hard braking events in Marshall followed by calls from Safety back when I was company.

I would be careful about trying that in Texas. Justices of the Peace have final jurisdiction over anything with a fine of less that $1000. That means he can find you guilty based on whatever he wants and you have no appeal.

Ah yea, BUT in Texas you also have the right to ask and receive a jury trial for a traffic violation. They usually throw it out in that case, or just out rite lose the case. lol
I had an uncle that for some reason chose not to renew his DL., so everytime he was stopped he got 2 tickets, yet he never had to hire a lawyer or pay a fine. because he would always request a jury trial.

You are spot on. This tactic is very common with cities that install red light cameras. The yellow is supposed to be at least 1 second for every 10 miles an hour. They shorten the yellow and collect more revenue.

    Final Drive Thanks this.
