Yeah... read what Schneider says about that:
- Up to $70,000 per year* with a new pay increase
- $5,000 sign-on bonus per experienced drivers
- Performance pay up to $0.04 per mile more, paid out weekly
- $0.01 per mile automatic annual pay increase
- Potential accessorial pay for detention, layover, hand load/unload
- Higher pay: Inexperienced OTR mileage rates, for example, have increased 17% in the last two years
- *Based on CDL driver experience, performance and location
Yeah. The POTENTIAL to make the money is there. You must meet every fuel stop. You must run a certain number of miles per month. You must (basically) live in the truck all year.
If you want to make $70k/year, then find a company in your area that pays 45 cpm+ and one that gets you 2800-3400 miles per week.
Otherwise, think about LTL. If you go to Schneider thinking you’re going to make $70k your first year, you could be in for a $20-30k disappointment. Be careful.
Schneider a good first choice for newbie?

You should do fairly well on that account...sni dedicated drivers generally do very well income wise for what they do..consistent work too being dedicated.Chris_in_CT Thanks this.

not sure how that runs out of that location but it was a solid gig for me seversl years ago out of columbus.
consistant miles, etc..
I will say I ran it home daily, which a major downside was varying start times. made it hard to manage good rest. The veterans of the account ran it as home weekends, they were picking up the next days load and making progress toward first stop and maintaining a more normal sleep schedule.Chris_in_CT Thanks this. -

Guess I’ll have to keep looking now. -
Big companies are never good choice.

My advice to everyone is stay away from mega carriers. Find yourself a nice midsize or small mom and pop shop to drive for.
I always recommend Freymiller or Schuster on the reffer side. -
Are you out of Indianapolis ? I was on the Schneider website and someone came on to chat.
I told the person I was planning on going to school and get my CDL and was interested in something maybe dedicated that would get me home daily with weekends off. And also most jobs I seen want 3 months experience. I asked him if going to an accredited driving school would get me hired for a decent job and he said I should go ahead and get my CDL and then apply. I told him I really didn't want to spend $4 -$5K and have to go to some place and do OTR and never home.
I am living and working in South Korea now but going to retire in December at age 66.
I am really interested in a driving job and my just bought a house 1 hour north of Indy in Kokomo.
I will be drawing my retirement plus Social Security so it's not really all about the money.
I am willing to get the CDL and work hard but also need home daily or maybe out for a day at times depending the need.
What type of driving do you do , and do you have any idea what runs they have out of Indy ?
I have a good MVR , background check should be fine, I have a secret security clearance. And have been on this job in Korea for 14 years.
Would really appreciate any info you care to share. You can also PM me if you want.
Thanks -
Honestly, if it were me, I'd find something with a bit less stress. Driving around indy in a day cab would not be my first choice.
I want to be a gate guard when I turn 66.
There's not enough money in a home every day, home every weekend to make it worth your while.dennisroc Thanks this.
