Reefer loads are usually longer runs but often require more lengthy live load/unload. It also takes a bit to get used to sleeping with the reefer running behind your bunk. The upside is that your miles should be fairly consistent since you are hauling food.

Yes, exactly. And one thing you might do is sit down today and write out your 10 year history. Jobs and unemployed periods and the associated dates and keep that paper with you to pull out every time you do an application. And when it comes to unemployed periods, that's all they need to know. If you had a medical issue, unless they ask about your medical background, your DOT card if your proof that you're medically fit to drive. Go online today and fill out 10 applications, the long form ones, not the short ones to see if you meet their minimum requirements, and you'll have 10 phone calls or emails Monday morning.x1Heavy Thanks this.

No, its the DOT. This employment history is required by part 391. Just be honest and account for the gaps if any. If Knight won't work with you find a carrier that will. You are hirable

You are probably better off not working for them. Best way is to go to school and get your CDL that way. If not ask on here if there are any good companies that will train you.

DOT does not require that you be employed the past 3 years or even at all. The law is that you must verify what you have been doing the past 3 years and any jobs requiring a CDL for 10 years. Some companies, such as Knight, don't want to deal with someone who's employment has been sporadic. There are companies that will hire you.

I don't mind a dry van load now and then. However in my mind I get bored. Then somewhat careless because of the boredom slamming doors. I need and crave detail of a problem such as flatbed, reefer challenges and so on. I do know enough to leave the doubles and triples alone (With the exception of those Aussie road trains, I crave them, haul ten trailers and pay me 5.00 a mile doing the work of 10.)
The doing is going to be routine and you will learn.
To this day I cannot go shopping in the food, fresh vegetables etc without recalling or examing where they came from, such as Wentachee Apples in Washington. And know exactly how it traveled from there to the DC near here and to the store for me to pick at 2.50 a pound. (That's another thought, if you are sent there to get apples, DO NOT OVERLOOK the company store. They have a warehouse wall to wall of goodies at like .30 a pound, take as much as you can carry for yourself it don't cost much.COBB2070 Thanks this.
