I'm pretty sure you've all experienced it, when going through the mountains and you go up and down so much, you start to forget which way is which without some geographical markers. So, which way am I going in this pic? (I hope I'm not breaking some rule by posting a link to the full-sized photo--this site will make it too small and leave out a lot of the clues to figure it out)

    Tough call...

I want to say uphill due to the tankers hitting the hammer lane to pass the dry van. Which could be heavier.

BUT... if the tanks are loaded, they're heavier. So you would be going downhill. And they probably run this stretch every day and are a bit more sure of themselves and the road, than the driver of the dry van.

    My money is on...downhill.

See the drainage pipes on the left side of the highway? Sticking with downhill?

Speaking of which, you ever get the feeling you are going down hill by the terrain, but your RPM's are dropping telling you otherwise???:biggrin_2554:

Wrong on the southbound guess. I had to pull out my logbook to check.

That always freaks me out. Or when it looks like a long straight stretch but you just can't pick up any speed at all.

Man i am glad I stumbled across this topic. I dont get to drive truck very often but i do any chance i can get. So a couple of months ago when my uncle was hauling some logging equipment from north carolina up to michigan, I wanted to go with him so i could see what it's like driving through the mountains. There was a few times where i couldn't tell if we were goin up or down.:biggrin_2556: It freaked me out a little. I thought something was wrong with me.
