Not to make light of your much appreciated military service of course, but that’s a pretty funny story.
I’d rather be manning a lighthouse somewhere or a radar station in Nome Alaska before I’d do the team thing.

I remember we stopped near Baghdad at Camp Stryker. We just finished a 13 hour push with no rest break and we had to wait 5 hours to get our freight downloaded and I just sat there hunched over the wheel in full battle rattle combat gear. Every plate in my vest digging into my skin as I was trying to just fall asleep for half an hour or so, but my buddy kept talking without ever missing a beat. I actually broke down and he asked me what was wrong. I didn't want to hurt our friendship cause he was cool when you just hung out with him. So I made up some stupid excuse.
I don't know man. Later on I thought, maybe he was just talking without end cause his wife just gave birth to his son and he couldn't be there for it. Maybe talking was his way of dealing with the crappy situation he was in. We lost a girl a few months earlier when her Humvee got blown up and he might have been worried about not making it home.
I never did call him out on his excessive talking and we are still friends to this day.Mike2633, Bob Dobalina, dwells40 and 3 others Thank this. -
The past few weeks I've been haunted by the same four words that have been uttered to me four times.
"Oh, you're still here?".
Most, if not all of the new guys that started with me have quit or have gotten fired. The old timers don't even bother to remember any names, they just hear someone is done and try to gossip their way into narrowing it down who it was by description on what they looked like.Mike2633, dwells40, LoneCowboy and 2 others Thank this. -
Sounds like you guys are done with volvos and going to freightliner starting in 2020. A few buddies I used to work chain accounts with told meMike2633 Thanks this.

Im already in like flynn. Finished my probation last Saturday. Terminal I'm out of is adding some sleeper runs over the next few months. The Intent list produced almost twice as many bodies as they need so I'm safe from teaming.
Keep getting told by many folks i hired in at a good time. Referring to how others have struggled the first year or two. Heard some people are retiring this year but any little bit helps to move up the board.FlaSwampRat, Radman, LtlAnonymous and 1 other person Thank this. -
Been working less than 30 hours a week for the past month. Being low man is the worst. I'm thinking of jumping ship. Is it this slow everywhere, or just the Bay area?
LtlAnonymous Thanks this. -
Hey, my absolute congratulations on being off probation. You're in. You did it.SidewaysBentHalo Thanks this.

I'm hearing that everybody is slow right now.

There's at least a couple of listings for solo full time permanent tractor trailer drivers on the UPS jobs website. I almost thought it was a typo at first: Tractor Trailer Driver at United Parcel Service (UPS)LtlAnonymous Thanks this.

Oh yeah. Just because we're hiring for sleepers doesn't mean that's all we're hiring for.
I normally wouldn't tell drivers that they are guaranteed to get sleeper positions, but the way this is stacking up, it looks like a pretty good shot. I have looked at the sign-up sheet, and we still need a lot more.SidewaysBentHalo Thanks this.
