Hello I was wondering if anyone had a similar experience as I did.
On my last DOT physical the examiner sent me for a sleep study.
The sleep study showed sleep apnea and I have a cpap machine on the way to my house as we speak.
The examiner only issued a short term medical card and I'm wondering what comes next.
My question is now that I have the machine will the examiner now give me the regular 2 year DOT medical card?
Getting nervous because time is running out.
Thank you in advance for any advice.

If you received a 3 month medical card you need to start using your cpap machine as soon as you get it. Before your medical card is up in about 2 1/2 months you need whoever issued your cpap machine to download your complaince. If you did it over wifi they will email you your complaince results. Print it out and take that back with you for your new med card. If you are in compliance you will get a one or a two year certificate.

Thank you for your response.
How long of use with the machine qualifies for compliance? -
I see you may be worried about losing your employment in the future. One way to prevent this is to become a local truck driver. Save plenty of money (2+ months without work), and then start looking for local jobs in major cities, which is where you will find the higher paying jobs. Look for Sysco, US Foods, Core Mark, etc.
It may take over 4 weeks to land a good local company, but it will be worth it. Don’t be quick to say yes to the first potential employer who calls you. The best companies usually take longer to contact you.bentstrider83, FlaSwampRat and Beer guy73 Thank this. -
I already have an excellent local trucking job.

You're welcome. You have to wear it for a minimum 4 hours a day, 70% is considered in compliance. Remember that includes when you are not working too. If you are on vacation or off you are still required to wear it.1951 ford and Beer guy73 Thank this.

Thank you.
Hopefully wearing it every night for a week or two satisfies the DOT examiner. -

Use the cpap a minimum of 21 out of 30 days for no less than 4hrs and you will be compliant. You will get a 1 year card afte going back to show you’ve been using the cpap for at least 70% in the last 90 days. I’ve been on it for the last year.
