Oh I did... several times... Finally returning my phone call, told me that they couldn't bother At this time, because a problem's organizing in the south... Do you really think I'm complaining about it without ever having tried ? Apparently so, maybe it would have been better to ask me if I've tried.

I make $20/hour and OT after 8 hours. What is the magical appeal to being paid for by the mile? Seems like if you break down or get stuck that's on you with little or no compensation.

I don't think it is necessarily that they have problems organizing in the south, per se. I think that they have issues organizing with the company in general. From what I gather, when any form of credible attempt at organizing rears its head, the company suddenly has an unlimited budget to throw money at things drivers are complaining about to make them think organizing is not a good move. Our current payscales reflect that as having happened at some point in time.
I don't want to see a union in my company, but I do think, since the departure of Ducker, and with the new leadership at the corporate level, that there will be a serious organizing attempt within the next couple of years.Gearjammin' Penguin and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -
More often than not, you are NOT broken down or stuck. So someone making .60cpm on a 500 mile bid averaging 55mph has a run time of a little more than 9 hours, equating to about $33/hr on run time alone.
AND depending on the company (mine for example), if you are stuck, you are on delay time at your hourly rate, and if you are broken down, you are on delay time at your hourly rate as well until you are up and running again.Gearjammin' Penguin, misterG, speedyk and 2 others Thank this. -
Really? What local? Have you contacted the IBT and expressed your concerns to them? How many guys do you have on board so far that work in your barn? Are they calling too?

If that's your setup, I guess that's a decent deal. But most of the drivers I talk to don't see detention pay until they are past two hours of waiting. With breakdowns I've seen companies just putting their drivers in a hotel with some kind of daily flat pay plus food allowance. I mean, it's better than nothing, but not by a whole lot. My hat's off to ya. I couldn't do it.Cardfan89, LoneCowboy, McUzi and 1 other person Thank this.

A company with a limited amount of older equipment is best if paid hourly. I've mostly worked for those kind since I'm new, mileage and trip pay can suck with chronic breakdowns.
Bigger company with newer trucks and lots of spares, mileage can work out well with an occasional loss.McUzi Thanks this. -
@LtlAnonymous I was next to a tanker at a red light today and now I'm paying more attention to them because we were talking about the surge when taking off. He took of soooooo slow it was hard to pace him and when he would shift the truck would jump pretty hard so I'm guessing that was him timing the shifting with the load sloshing back and forth.
LtlAnonymous Thanks this. -
I have been paying attention to tankers more as well. I haven't taken off alongside one since we talked about it, but I will look for it when I do.FlaSwampRat Thanks this.

I don't wanna go to work tonight, it's my Saturday.....but my ####### said sure....I'll come in and move trailers. The upside is after like four hours I can leave if I want to.
