Hi everyone,
I'd like to hear what everyone else thinks about discrimination against drivers solely because they have a CDL. It started with BAC limits; I don't mind a .04% BAC as I don't drink, but it should apply to all drivers evenly.
Now there's a ban on CDL holders taking traffic school in lieu of points, even if the violation occurred in a personal vehicle.
And Arizona wants to add points to your license for traffic light violations (e.g. running a stale yellow) -- but only if you have a CDL.
I can see the rationale for some of this, such as tailgating being more unsafe in a big truck (longer stopping distance; more damage if you rear-end someone.) But most of these violations have nothing to do with safety, and the fact that they apply whether or not you're in a CMV makes it plain as day that this is discrimination and has nothing to do with safety.
Or am I wrong?

Well in theory your wrong. Most if not all states reasoning is if you have a CDL your a professional driver and should know better not to do those things.

I admit some officers are overzealous in the enforcement of the laws on the books, but the majority I've met are cool as long as a bad attitude isn't given.

In CA if you are a CDL holder.....
If you receive a traffic violation either in a CMV or your POV you may not go to traffic school to keep the violation off of your driving record....
If you run a red light in CA...you may have your licensed suspended up to 90 days....
Talk about discrimination.... -
"Discriminatory rules for CDL holders" - sounds more like "higher standards for CDL holders."

Or call it what it really is: "Revenue Enhancements"....

here in fla we call it a money pit for the state or a cash cow,and in some citys they are putting up camras at the intersections so if you do run a red light you will be mailed a $130 ticket with your lic plate and vehcical in it this cost the city $1 millon dollars and it is subcontracted buy the city so they make an extra $750,000 an yr and more citys are putting them in????so how dos it feel to be watched

Really? Jesus! Good thing the United States does not have reciprocity agreements with foriegn lands such as Commuforia.....(grin)

I feel that I've pretty much always been a safe driver (wife says I drive to slow.) Though since I have attained my CDL I'll admit to being even more cautious. It sure would be dumb of me to get points or lose my license before getting a real chance to use them!! My driving class was told early on that CDL holders were held to a higher standard & for good reason.....As for as the police goes I've found a respectful attitude goes a long way it's even better when it goes both ways.

Now you know why I have a smile on my face when the sign says welcome to Nevada or Arizona....
Sorry, but Oregon sucks almost as bad as Kommiefornia....
