I graduated from C1 in Ft Worth a couple of weeks ago and am scheduled for orientation the 3rd of Aug. To be honest I had a LOT of trouble with the USA course. My backing was good but those tight u turns gave me nightmares. I guess I just squeeked by. My road test went great. I made a 96 so I know I can drive the truck. All the instructers said the course at orientation is a lot easier with more room to turn and everything but i'm still worried about it. Can anyone tell me how different it is? Hope it is easier cause i'm ready to get it over with. They didn't teach us the right set up for a 45 so i'm hoping we get some instruction when we get there.:biggrin_25525:

You will likely never make a tight u-turn in the real world (other than in a yard somewhere), so I wonder why it was even taught during your classes.

They said it taught us better control of the truck. Plus they said USA delivered to some really tight areas so they stressed the tight turns and 90 degree backing.

Fair nuff. Better to be over trained than under trained anyway.

Yep, but it sure made it hard for this rookie. I haven't drove in 8 yrs and it seemed like those trailers grew a LOT in 8 yrs. LOL

Seems like as the trailers get longer, my vision keeps getting shorter.

I went to C1 Ft. Worth then to USA in march. What you learned at C1 helps alot. USA coarse is a little different. They use blue barrels everwhere. They do have a 45 degree backing between lines, and they have a way they want you to do it. You get to pratice it before you go to the coarse. Then a guy will run you around the coarse to show you what to do. Pay attention! He will tell you how to set up and where to begin your turns and where to stop. It is tight but if you listen its no problem.

Thanks a lot! I've been worried about that course ever since I left school. Just want to get off to a good start!

They will start getting people early monday morning while your doing paperwork, to go learn there way of backing. Then you do the coarse. The instructors are great! If you have problems they will help you. I seen some guys have problems, and they would have them do it again.
