    Hate to break it to you. Wife having baby, isn't a medical emergancy.

    Women delivered babies without a husband present for decades. This "be there" mentality has only been around for about 30 years.

    I was also thinking about a man's role in the family recently.

    It is only in the last century or so, that man has become a family man . . . as in at home all the time.

    The kids and wife got along just fine back then . . . what makes now different? Have the men in this country been neutered?

    Unfortunately, this proved to be untrue and emergency medical leave was, in fact, necesary. On Tuesday August 4th, while comming out of a d/h in Wellsboro PA I got a call from my wife that she had some "spoting" and but the doctor said "not to worry". The next morning (lancaster, PA) my mother in law called and said [my wife] was in the ER. Before the trailer was even unloaded it was over.

    It hurts, as a man, to be only 4 hours from your wife and know that there is nothing I can do. It took every bit of restraint not to drop the trailer and run full tilt back to NYC.

    I had already turned in my 2 week notice, and every day became more and more difficult to justify staying in the truck. (thank god for friends and family who stepped in for me in my absence)

    When I found myself at a bar that night with a bottle in my hand I knew I was unfit to drive. I booked a hotel, sobered up, and told the company I was no longer "right in the head".

    (the funny thing is that they STILL insisted I drive the truck back to their nearest drop yard. Hello? Driver admits to drinking and being suicidal and you want him behind the wheel?)

    I think the most succinct way to put this is:

    I've quit many jobs, I only have one wife.

    Let me get this straight, you were on your way home to your wife and you stopped to have a drink and became suicidal? How the hell is getting drunk going to help you get home?

    You have no business being in a truck to begin with and you want sympathy for your situation you will get none from me.

    I am sitting in ####### Iraq right now and have no idea where my son even is!!!! (Yes the one in my littel pic there!!) My ex up and hauled ### with him and I don't know where she is right now.

    Suicide is for the weak minded! You want to be a man? Get your ### home and quit complaining!! At least you have that option! I don't!
