I have a question about the rates pulling oversize.
I was offered a load yesterday out of WI going to TN 15000 pounds 11ft 6 in wide no tarp.. 1000 miles paying 3k... now hauling legal sized flatbed freight that would be a decent rate especially right now, but i have never pulled oversize before and definatly not as an owner op. i ended up turning down the load because i wouldnt be comfortable being 11 6 wide on my first oversize.. I only get 75 percent of that rate so i felt like it wasnt very good to begin with after having to buy permits and the hassle that comes with it being my first one .
I know its not really popular to talk about rates but being new to this, Im just asking what type of numbers i should be looking for in a load like that. so i can make an informed decision in the future, and dont end up pulling something that sounds good but is complete #### rate in the end.
Thanks
Good rate for oversize?

WI, IL, IN, KY, TN permits - no escorts.
About 9 hours of daylight to play with, so a 2, maybe 3 day haul.
1,000 miles may run into 1,100 actual.
Deadhead to shipper -
At 75% I’d look at it for $5k.
11’6” isn’t too much of a beast.booley, singlescrewshaker, LoneRanger and 2 others Thank this. -
Holiday travel in Illinois and Indiana will possibly hurt your travel plans.
singlescrewshaker, D.Tibbitt and Cabinover101 Thank this. -
What he said ^^^^^^ 11.6 is a cake walk.booley, singlescrewshaker, HoneyBadger67 and 3 others Thank this.

Legal height?
..11'6 not bad at all. The whole load 11'6 wide like an A/C unit or air handler or just a piece sticking out somewhere. Yeah travel restrictions around the Major Holidays will kick your butt. Daylight travel time restrictions in the east. Like Blair and Gretchen said 1000 miles can turn into 1100 with permit routing.
..Is the company buying the permits? Or does that come out of your 75%?singlescrewshaker, blairandgretchen and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
$3K / 1000 mi at 11-6W on a flat is probably as good as you can expect, although if it rides on a flat you're probably going to have a decent amount of time loading and unloading, coordinating with cranes, etc
May not have needed an IN if it goes to western TN
11-6 isn't a cake walk if you don't do oversize regularly, but at the same time if you want to get some experience with it, it's a very doable widthsinglescrewshaker, blairandgretchen, D.Tibbitt and 1 other person Thank this. -
Yes legal height.. Company coordinates all permits and pays for them but then it gets transfered onto my settlement so yes i do end up paying for them with the 75%
Thank you for the info , yes like i said i never pulled any oversize before . closest i been is a 60ft rebar and steel beam load on 53fter . never pulled wide not even 8ft7 in . so i figured it was a little to big my first time . but good to see i didnt have the right mindset as i forgot to think about daytime travel and holiday restrictions could turn the load into a big hassle. Not to mention permit routing. Thank u for the helpsinglescrewshaker, Cabinover101 and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
I know u guys pulling the big stuff it may be cake walk but i never hauled anything over 8ft6in before so i was a little hesitant to pull the trigger on it, not knowing what i was getting intosinglescrewshaker, clausland, Cabinover101 and 2 others Thank this.

One of the fails of drivers that start doing oversize. They don't read the permit or provision sheets. Dont be one of them ! Read everything !!singlescrewshaker, TripleSix, LoneRanger and 4 others Thank this.
