Things happen. The barrels were a worst case scenario for me. Hazmat not labeled or segregated or secure to the pallets. The two blue barrels were just standing in the middle of the pallet. Shipper handed me the seal and went home.
If it's corn flakes packed to the door that's different.
Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

Oh, I hear ya', driver, you did good. I'm not saying all my loads off the rail behaved, and I had no load bars with me. I hauled a load of batteries, like AAA, D size, like a million little boxes, none of it wrapped. ( You couldn't break the seal until you got to the customer). Those boxes fanned out like a deck of cards. I was there all day restacking that load. Good thing I got paid for that. I've hauled lots of Hazmat loads years ago, unmarked, in with other freight, I just didn't placard it ( sticks out like a sore thumb) and went around the scales. I'd never try that today, and you probably should have refused that load, if it wasn't marked. Go to jail for that today.

I have 17 straps. I had ten once. The load required all ten. Literally the load cut thru all ten. I currently have three never used. When it comes to hazmat of you carry that. Each single tote has to have its own strap. I dont own the truck. I just don't like tickets
dosgatos Thanks this. -
Another idea is to carry an abundance of motorcycle straps. I keep the hooks with d-rings (one end snaps into e-track or logistics post) so I can strap down a car/bike/etc. I don’t use them often, but they come in handy. 2 rolls of shrink wrap as well.
Overkill, but we are professionals and that’s part of the job (my opinion).
I typically use 4 16’ ratchet straps per load. Treat each one rated at 2k lbs so there’s less a chance of the load moving if one fails.
For my furniture loads, the pull style straps is all I use. -
Curious who/where do you get your straps from?
